Show PROSPEROUS HIG0SCH00L In spite of various rumors to the effect that we would have no high school here this year, we are going ; to have the best school in the his-, tory of the town. The large registration regis-tration of the first day is indicative of the spirit, enthusiasm and the de- j termined effort of the students and patrons to make this the banner year. Ninety-one students registered on the first day, more than twice the nums ber that entered on the first day cl last year. The number hs now reached rea-ched one-hundred and six. In the endeavor to reach more ful- J ly and accurately the needs of the community, the school for the first ' time is offering this year a full high school course in mining enginner-ing. enginner-ing. This course consists of two years in algebra; two in geometry; one in trignometry; one in chemistry; chemis-try; om in phvsics and one geology. This should rrove a very popular course in this mining district, and we hope that students who have inclination." incli-nation." toward mining will not miss this opncrtunity and that students seeking a genera! ihr aiicn will select se-lect fre"ly from these courtes. Aside from their training in one of the most important vocations in the stat", thpy are intensely interesting and valuable to the general student. We are offering courses in dramatic dra-matic art, the purpose of which is to train the students in the proper ap preciation of good plays. This will be done by the students presenting to the public as many plays as is pes-sible pes-sible during the school term. Besides Besid-es the training in play appreciation, this course aims to develop in the student ease and grace in public ap- .- -v pearance. We strongly recommend this for any and all students. These with the usual courses in commercial subjects, home economics, manuel training, mathematics, English French Fren-ch history, and others make a variety vari-ety equal to that in any high school in the state outside Salt Lake and Ogden. Never before has such a variety va-riety of courses been offered for the student to select from. In fact the number is so large that students are finding it extremely difficult to decide de-cide on and select' those courses that they want. Our superintendent is hard on the trail of a suitable man to coach the athletics. With the championship of the North half of the division tucked tuck-ed under our belts for last year, we are determined to broaden our scope and take in a larger territory this year, borne of last year's team have already entered and more are expected expect-ed to register in the next week. Thes with the splendid array of likely looking material will guarantee us some fast games during the winter. The social life of the students will not be neglected and it is planned to have regular supervised socials, danc es and partiewas occasion will permit per-mit or desire. With the splendid corps cf teachers teach-ers and the splendid support tins far ' shown by the patrons we are confi- . dent of making ourselves known and j our influensce felt in the commun- j ity and country around about. - - - - |
