Losfinqeks UnionftocklJards Los Angeles Union Stock Yards, May 7 Cattle movement through the Los Angeles Union Stock yards the past week was moderate moder-ate and somewhat under the previous pre-vious week. Of the approximately 7500 head received, 4800 were of California origin, 1450 from Arizona Ari-zona and 450 from Texas. Shipments Ship-ments from other out-of-state points were considerably under recent re-cent weeks. Some uneveness featured the trade. Good cows finished on a strong to 25c higher footing while dairy cows and common to medium steers closed steady to 25c lower. Other classes and grades showed little, if any, change. A drove of 35 good to choice experimentally ex-perimentally fed New Mexico steers, scaling 980 pounds, topped the week's operations at $17.50. Three loads of 1179-pound Idaho steers at $17.35 were next highest. Other medium to good steers ranged rang-ed $14.75 to $16.60, grassers from $14 to $15.50 and commoner Mexicans Mexi-cans and Brahmans $12 to $14.50 : with a few inferior kinds down to $11.50 and under. Strictly good heifers were virtually lacking. Some plain kinds ranged down to $12 and under. One load of very good young cows sold at $15 to equal the local record, re-cord, with several loads and odd packages at $13.75 to $14.50. A few dairy cows up to $14 but most dairy cows $10.50 to $12.50, a sprinkling at $12.75 to $13.25. A few good beef bulls $14.25 to ?14.50. Medium to good bulls largely $12 to $14. Few loads good to choice calves and vealers ?15 to $16.35, odd lots up to $16.50. Some cull and common calves $8 to $12, with demand for these kinds more or less uncertain. Fleshy feeders ranged upward to 514.75, with others at $14 to 514.25. Yearling stockers and stock calves were scarce. Hog receipts continued to run extremely light with no change in price levels which have been at maximum OPA ceilings for several months. Practically all butchers sold at $15.75 and sows ind stags at $15. Feeder pigs were 'firm with most sales in a range of S20 to $23.50. A few odd lots of light weights reached $25. Fat lambs displayed a weak trend with prices around 25c under the close of the previous week. Very good spring lambs sold at Si 4.73 and medium kinds brought S14.25. Good ewes ranged up to S with some Xo. 2 pelt ewes at $7.50 and culls at S3 to $4. V |
