Show Whitbeck Takes First Half Championship The Whibteck Recreation club Softball ladies "tromped all over" the Telluride Sparkettes last Friday Fri-day night in their championship play-off game, to record a 16-3 win and wrap up the first-half championship. It was "sweet revenge" for the Whitbeck girls, their only loss in league play having been to the same Sparkettes on June 4, 9-8 at the end of seven innings. On Tuesday, June 18, Telluride suffered their only defeat when the Why-Not girls rallied in the seventh sev-enth to take the long end of an 8-7 game . The Stewart-Dunn youngsters out-slugged and out-hit Sam's Appliance Ap-pliance to wind up the season with a .500 average, having won two and lost two. Second-half play starts Monday, July 1, with the Sportsmen meeting Penrie'ys in the eye-opener at 7:30 and Why-Not Service meeting the Stewart-Dunn gals in the nightcap. The new schedule will be in effect, with two games nightly, three times weekly. Games scheduled for Wednesday, Wednes-day, July 3, will be played on July 4, with Sam's Appliance meeting meet-ing the Telluride girls, and the Milford News vs. Minersville game starting at 8:30. Friday, July 5th, the Sportsmen-Railroaders Sportsmen-Railroaders game is scheduled for 7:30, with Why-Not and Telluride winding up the evening. |
