"Arctic Emergencies," Emergen-cies," a little orange-and-blue bock-let, bock-let, will be carried in each fliei's emergency kit on future flights far north. The booklet was prepared by the safety education division of the army air forces flight control com mand, and is a companion piece to "Jungle and Desert Emergencies," distributed early in May. Like its predecessor, it possesses an especially espe-cially durable cover and water-resistant pages. Authorities on all phases of life in the Arctic were consulted in its preparation. The guide tells how to make suitable suit-able goggles to ward off treacherous treacher-ous snow blindness, how to increase the warmth and protective quali ties of regulation flying suits, what to eat and how to cook it. Dietary tips for the flier forcefully grounded north of the tree line are plentiful and varied. They include the warning that polar bear livers are poisonous. Also, to the pilot who might be tempted to live on rabbits because they are abundant, the booklet points out that such a , course will produce "rabbit starvation" starva-tion" and possible death. |
