Show School Elections In Two Precincts Next Wednesday Changes in the tenure of school board memberships as enacted by the 1935 legislature, will be placed in effect for the first time this I fall with the election of board ! members from precincts 2 and 4 j of the Beaver county district. The precinct 2 membership, at the present pre-sent time held by J. Albert Muir, will be for three years from January Jan-uary 1, next, while the precinct 4 board membership now held by J. C. Sinith, who is a candidate for reelection, will be for a period of five years. On the first Wednesday j of December 1938, the other three board membersship will be filled, but, instead of the four year terms which have been the order heretofore, hereto-fore, precinct No. 1 will elect a board member for five years, No. 3 for two years and No. 5 for four years. These changes will make for a new constancy in the county board of education, with not more than one new member elected at a time but with a school election taking place each year instead of every two years as at present. With the expiration of the time for filing of candidacies for the election to take place next Wednesday, Wednes-day, there were two names entered in the race for precinct No. 2, comprising com-prising the Beaver east district, J. Albert Muir, incumbent, and Wallace Yardley being those two names. For precinct No. 4, the boundary lines of which are the same as for Milford town, the name of J. C. Smith, incumbent and president of the board, is the only one filed. Joe Smith, during the four years he has been a member of the board, has become known as one of the keenest of the education-minded men of the state, his reputation extending far beyond the confines of Beaver county. While Mr. Smith is the only can-idate can-idate for the board membership from Milford whose name has been filed and will appear printed on tbe official ballot and it is almost ineonceivabe that opposition should develop in view of his remarkable record on the board that very record merits a big vote of confidence confi-dence and appreciation of his splendid work and it is to be hoped that this will be accorded him. His interest and ability and exceptional excep-tional knowledge of school finance have come from the deep study he has made of things educational and his grasp of school problems and ability in helping to solve each varied difficulty is almost uncanny. There are few his equal and none his superior in the state. The former sample room of the Milford hotel is designated as the voting place for representative precinct No. 4 and the polls are to be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. 0 |
