Show State OPA Rules On Vacation Gas; It is both unpatriotic and illegal to use gasoline or tires for vaca-( tion purposes except as provided , by the mileage rationing regula-j tions, H. Grant Ivins, OPA state director, said Saturday, when he i issued a statement summarizing ' the ways in which gasoline could he legally used for vacation travel. , The statement from state O P A ! headquarters is suprisingly in line with what The News had to say last week in the Poiminator column. "While mileage regulations do permit a limited amount of gaso-1 line to be ued for vacation purposes, pur-poses, the OPA joins with the treasury and other government agencies in encouraging people to take a 'victory vacation' at home," Mr. Ivins said. "We urge motorists motor-ists to do this rather than to use even the mileage permitted for non-essential purposes in order to conserve our greatly restricted tire supply." The newly announced 0 PA vacation va-cation rasoline policy in the east ccast shortage area does not allow al-low additional gasoline for vacation vaca-tion purposes in that area. Mr. ilvir.s stated. He indicated that while some have interpreted recent re-cent announcements as indicating that special vacation gasoline would be allowed on the east coast, the newly amended policy merely modifies the east coast pleasure-driving ban sufficiently to iillc.w the use of "family essential" essen-tial" rations currently held by thoso motorists for a maximum of one round-trip to a summer home or other vacation center. The statement of OPA policy regarding vacation travel follows: 1. It is strictly contrary ' to OPA regulations and policy to issu" nr.y special or supplemental ;-aso!ir.e for vacation purposes.
