Show CHRIST1ANSC1ENCE "Christ Jesus" is the subject of the lesson-sermon in First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Milford on Sunday, September 1. The Golden Text is: "The law-was law-was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ" (John 1: 17). Among the Scriptural texts in the lesson-sermon are the following: follow-ing: "When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the living Son of man. ami? And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God" (Matthew 16: 13, 16). Correlative to the verses are the following citations from the Chri-tian Chri-tian Science textbook "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Scrip-tures" by Mary Baker Eddy: "It was now evident to Peter that divine di-vine Life, Truth and Love, and not a human personality, was the healer of the sick and a rock, a 'firm foundation in the realm of harmony (p. 138). The word Christ is not properly a synonym for Jesus, though it is commonly so used. Jesus was a human name On the other hand, Christ is not a name so much as the divine di-vine title of Jesus. Christ expresses express-es God's spiritual, eternal nature (p. 333). Christ is the true idea voicing good, the divine message from God to men speaking to the human consciousness" (p. 332). n |
