Show o Benefit Game Is Planned For Lad Woodrow Bennett, 18-year old star pitcher of the St. George baseball team, was critically injured in-jured by a pitched ball in the Mil-ford-St. George league game played play-ed at that place Sunday but is reported re-ported recovering in a Los Angeles hospital. The lad was examined by a physician phy-sician at the time of the injury and the latter reported to the boy's playing mates and the Milford Mil-ford team that he was not seriously serious-ly injured. However, a later examination ex-amination disclosed the fact that he suffered a broken sygoma bone, torn ligaments in the jaw and a possible blood clot, and a special plane was chartered Monday Mon-day afternoon to rush him to the California Lutheran hospital for I the special attention of Dr. Carl Rand, noted brain specialist. The expense of the specially chartered plane and medical attention at-tention threatens to bear heavily on the St. George team and community com-munity and as a means of helping them out, Manager J. C. Root of the Milford team is planning to stage a double-header ball game here on Sunday, July 28, as a benefit for the injured player. Cedar City will be here on that day and St. George and Parowan will likewise be playing at Minersville Miners-ville and Beaver, respectively. Just what the lineup will be for the second game of the double header is problematical, however. Also as a benefit for young Bennett, an exhibition game between be-tween the St. George team and a picked nine from the other teams of the league is planned for Pioneer Pio-neer day at St. George and Milford Mil-ford will contribute several players play-ers for the all-league lineup. |
