Show Ruminatin' $ Roundabout f I In which Ruminator .proposes to dream a lot, thing as little as necessary, scatter a few bouquets bou-quets while their objectives are still . above the sod to enjoy them, and fire a hot-shot now and then while said Ruminator Ruminat-or can enjoy seeing the sparks fly. S'.j? Wlhen a girl says her sweetie's hands are haunted, she really means they're creepy. And then there is the one about the man who stepped .up to the window of an airline office and asked for a seat on a plane to Los Angeles. "Don't show me any favor." he said. "Just treat me like a dog!" Ruminator gained an entirely new and improved viewpoint of the Utah State Engineering and Highway commission, its personnel and "what makes it tick" Wednesday Wednes-day evening in connection with the highway meeting held at Beaver and attended by virtually all members mem-bers of the state and district staffs. All too well acquainted with the appeasement policy and ill-kept promises of the past, it strikes us that the present setup has the makings of an organization organiza-tion that will gain the respect of the people and really work for the best interests of all the state, regardless of the fact that some section cries harder or votes more orthodoxly than some others, Which is as it should be! Ray Leavitt, a native of southern south-ern Utah, who has just recently been appointed as new member and chairman of the state commission, commis-sion, impresses us as a man who will say "yes" or "no" only when he means just that and then will stick to his word. Apparently he has plenty of energy and ability to do a good job and already gives evidence of seeing clearly and deciding de-ciding fairly in rather complex matters. '''The promotion of Roy McLease to the all-important post of chief engineer in the highway commission commis-sion comes as a most fitting reward re-ward for well-done service as district dis-trict engineer at Cedar City. In addition to his ability as an engineer, at which he is plenty good, he has the rare ability, seemingly, seem-ingly, of digesting difficult measures mea-sures such as the . Robinson bill, and then being able to present the details intelligently to his listeners. listen-ers. Wje predict a .brilliant future for this capable and likable young man! 'But Ruminator would be remiss in his ruminating if he didn't say a word for "Mac" Moffet, canny Scotchman who has been serving the state as location engineer for many years. We doubt if there is a road route in the state, be it a rarely used access road or boule. v-ard, that he cannot describe every crook or straightaway, and, seemingly, seem-ingly, take out of thin air the pros and cons of almost any proposed highway. Mac has the reputation of being longer on work than he is on talk, and, for this reason, we are looking forward with due appreciation to the continuation, con-tinuation, at some time in the future, of an interesting conversation con-versation begun Wednesday night. |
