Show Hawksbill Sea Turtle Has a Shingled Roof The hard plates of a certain sea turtle are laid down with one lapping lap-ping over another like shingles on a roof. Known as the hawksbill, it supplies the- world with the true "tortoise shell." Its shell is about two feet long and the plates are S inches wide and 12 inches long. Placed in hot water, the shell will soften and can be bent into most any shape. These turtles are found in the warmer parts of the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian oceans. 1 |
