Show CONTEST WINNERS ARE ANNOUNCED The third annual Backyard ami Playground Contest sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary was brought to a successful close Friday j with the Children's Pay program at Legion Park. Three hundred and seventeen children, g-atjhered at thr i park to enjoy the games which wore ; directed by Mrs. Louise Campbell and Miss Eva Coleman, assisted b the Mise Peggy Blackburn, Mar-I Mar-I garet Peterson, Patra and Marjorie 1 Youner. Gladys .Martin, Beth Cide-, Cide-, man, Betty Murdock, Naomi Yiihor, Uosalie Koch and Selina Johnson. Claude Horton and I-awrence Eas-ton, Eas-ton, assisted by Roy Coleman, Pick Johnson and Art Gilbert-, Junior League boys, arranged and coached two interesting ball games for the younger lads, while Legionnaires J. C. Root and J. M. Hughes took charge of the races and awarded fifty prizes to winners of various events. After this program the children chil-dren enjoyed two hours of dancing at the Arion. Winners of the contest, a decided by the judges, William Gardner, D. i. Edwards, Mrs. J. R. Murdock sr.. j Mrs. William Cochrane and Mrs. John Hanlon. were announced by Legionnaire Legion-naire Hughes and the following a-wards a-wards were made: For most beautiful beauti-ful yard, Mrs. J. M. Williams; fof best vegetable garden, Mrs. William; Morris; for best playground, I.amar Outzen. The yards belonging to Mrs. Rue Neilsen and Mrs. W. 0. Carlson Carl-son were given honorable mention. Mrs. Ezra Lyman, chairman of the committee for the contest, with other members, served sandwiches and punch to about four hundred who gathered at Legion park. The members of the Auxiliary' appreciate ap-preciate the splendid support citizens cit-izens have given them in making this project so successful, and a note from Auxiliary officers to The News expresses the appreciation of the Auxiliary for the support we have given the project in our columns. |
