Christian Science "Sacrament is the subject of the Lesson-Sermon, July 12, in all branches branch-es of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ Scientist in Boston, Massachusetts. Golden Text: John 4:34. Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work. The citations which comprise the Lesson-Sermon include the following from the Bible: "And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, dis-ciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body" (St. Mathew 26:26). The Lesson-Sermon also includes the following correlative passage from pages 32 and 33 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," by Mary Baker Eddy: "The true sense is spiritually spirit-ually lost, if the sacrament is confined to the use of bread and wine. The disciples had eaten, yet Jesus prayed and gave them bread. This would have been foolish in a literal sense; but in its spiritual signification, it was natural and beautiful. Their bread indeed came down from heaven. It was the great truth of spiritual being, be-ing, healing the sick and casting out error." |
