Show This Is Year of Pitcher, States President Hevdler This is going to be a pitcher's year, rather than another big frolic for the batsman. President John Heydler said the other day that his observations of 1931 baseball games showed that while 0. the new baseball when hit goes just as far as the old one, batters are find- ing more difficulty In hitting It. 'The pitchers are getting a six-inch better break on their curves," Mr. Heydler explained. "The batter Is not meeting the ball as often or as solid-ly solid-ly as before, due to better pitching as I see It. Fewer home runs and at least one Do-hit game indicate this." Statistics bear out President Heyd-ler's Heyd-ler's view. Scores have been lower and closer than last year, as a rule. Women are admitted free to all night baseball games In San Francisco, Francis-co, and officials of the Seals and Mis-ions Mis-ions expect to profit by giving something some-thing away for nothing. The club owners figure that women who go to the night contests will usually usu-ally have a male escort. The man pays. The women eut more hot dogs, peanuts, etc., which cost extra. The . man pays. The home club also gets the extra charge for boxes. Ehode Island State's track team will have four captains this year, according ac-cording to Coach Fred Tootell.
