Show forty-ninersday"" will be may 2 "Bigger itrui Uctter than ! Ever"' is Promise of ; Legion. May 2 is t!w tU:te selected by the American Legion for the Annual Forty-Niners' Day celebration. Special Spe-cial meetings of the membership aad committee chairmen h.ive been h!d, T r.t which plan; wora outlined for this ' year's ec-lebration, which, the legior.-aires legior.-aires promise to make bigger and I better than cv;'r. Featuring ihi. ycar'e fv!.'$tla will again be the Gold Rush Parade, which last year packed our streets with crowds that came to see the unique spectacle. Two dances will hold forth again at night, (all night), the opera house being reserved this year for nothing but old-time dances and a bar. The Legion is being guided by Leonard Le-onard Bowen, who wields the gavel since Commander Sweat went to Cedar Ce-dar City. Bowen is relying for help on a strong general committee, con-: con-: sisting of Leroy Luken, Sam Cline, Ted Kronholm and Tom Johansen. This general committee has, in turn, appointed special eha'rnKjn of detaili of work, and the entire membership has been apportioned among them sla finance and dance, publicity, parade and concession committees.' Committees Com-mittees will, in general, be given a free hand, but will be responsible to Sam Cline for finances, and each will be held to strict accounting that its portion of the. work is done. It is difficult to estimate the number num-ber of people that the 49'ers brought to Milford last year. It is sufficient to say that there has been nothing like it in Southern Utah. The Legion does not feel yet that the show is old enough to run on its reputation, hence is urging male members of our citizenry to let their beards grow to the fullest bloom, and in that way, aid in advertising the event. |
