Show !D0R0THY MURDOCK COMPLIMENTED ON ART DISCOURSE Monday evening the B. P. W. Club held their monthly meeting at the At-kin At-kin Hotel Every member brought a guest which made it a very impressive and also a highly enjoyable event. After a welcome by the President Mrs. A. J. Atkin and a club song, the following program was given: Miss Dorothy Murdock gave a classical clas-sical and wonderful 'talk on art. She held her audience spell bound and she proved herself a very versatile talker, as she carried her hearers from one line of art to another. Commencing from the Egyptian 3300 B. C. she recounted re-counted and explained the Roman 600 B. C. Byzantine, 300 B. C. Italian, 1300 A. D. Romanticism, 1800 A. D. and modernism 1900 A. D. Earliest Artists known by name, Miss Murdock explained, were: Fran Angelieo, Monk; Raphael, loved by moderns; Giotto, called "Father of the Arts;" Leonardo DeVinci, created beauty; Michael Angelo, noted for collossial . figures; Titan, marvelous understanding of color; Sir Joshua Reynolds, understanding of fineness; Rembrant, perfect understanding of humans; Rubens, kept art from an absolute ab-solute downfall; Van Gogh, using color col-or in expression; Gogain, Monet, Manet, Degas, French Artists; Cyz-zanne. Cyz-zanne. Moderns, Picasso, Mattisse, John Carol. Modern Art: Experiment at present, pre-sent, daring, getting away from shallow shal-low prettiness. Art has had the first two. Michael Angelo's figures: Perfect understanding of Human body, bal-ar.c2, bal-ar.c2, symmetry unity. Commercial Art: Drawing, drap- -ing-and actual .making,- - - The paintings, drawings comprising portraits, models, poses, life drawing, painting, pen and ink sculpture and landscape were marvelous and one felt they were breathing the atmosphere atmos-phere of some solon of fame as they were shown the work of art created and executed by Miss Murdock. Other numbers were violin solo by Marcel Dotson; "What my club means to the community," Mrs. Edith Osborne; Os-borne; Reading, Louise Campbell, "Why I am a Club Member," Bessie Killam; Reading, Mrs. C. R. Parrish. Mrs. Kuchenmeister was presented with a gift from the club members. A game of sentiment was played in honor of Mrs. Kuchenmeister which brought out many good wishes for . her future happiness and success. Delicious refreshments were served, Arvilla Muir, Mrs. Lang, Bessie Killam Kil-lam and Vivian Hunter assisted in serving. Twenty five members and guests were present. ' Everyone present was profuse in their expressions of pleasure realized at the meeting and a number of new members were added to the club. |
