Show HOUSE AND TRUCK DESTROYED BY FIRE HOMES THREATENED Fire destroyed the partially constructed con-structed house of C. J. Johnson, the truck of Evan Lyman and damaged the garage of Charles R. Grimshaw Tuesday night at ten thirty o'clock. The blaze, started in the unfinished house at the rear of the Johnson home. A portion of the house was being be-ing used as a storage place for Lyman's Ly-man's truck. Here from unknown causes the car become ignited and the gasoline tank exploded. The fire spread r'ipidly through the entire building and ignited the Grimshaw garage next door. Charles Williams who was in the neighborhood at the time, noticing the blaze turned in the alarm. When the fire truck arrived it was seen that the department had insufficient insuffi-cient house. A crew of firemen were left with seven hundred feet of hosa and another crew took the truck and went for the Union Pacific fire equipment. equip-ment. The fire department saved part of' the Grimshaw garage and prevented the blaze from spreading to the hous-es hous-es in the neighborhood but could not save the partly built Johnson house which was burned to the ground and the Lyman truck which w is completely complete-ly destroyed. Fifteen members of the department, almost the entire roll, turned out and worked two hours preventing the blaze from spreading, and a numlber of citizens' volunteered theSr assistance assis-tance in fighting the fire. Part of the property destroyed was insured. Lyman, owner of the truck, was out of town at the time of the fire, and Johnson is in California. Johnson's mother, however, is living in their home. As she was unaware of the burning of the house m the rear of the lot until wakened by the noise and confusion she is unable to account for the cause of the fire. o |
