Show OPEN TAPS CREATE FIRE HAZARD During these cold nights many of our residents have formed a habit of letting their water faucets run wide open in order to prevent freezing of the water pipes. Few realize what a fire hazard haz-ard is incurred when many residents follow this practice. Should a fire break out in the early morning there would be absolutely no water pressure at command of the fire department. Reports from the city water department shows that ordinarily ordin-arily about 15,000 gallons of water is used in the city during the night, but this week the amount has jumped to 80,000 gallons which depletes the storage tank's supply. The town does not object to the extra cost of providing this yater ,but fram the standpoint of fire protection, the citizens, should cooperate and assist in keeping an adequate water pressure pres-sure in case of fire. Furthermore there is no need of leaving a tap wide-open to prevent the pipes from freezing, as a small dripping at the faucet will answer just as well and not cause an excessive use of water. |
