Show o SHOULD PAY VETS' INSURANCE NOW A move by Senator King, of the state of Washing-" Washing-" ton, to pay off the ex-service men's adjusted compensa-. : tion insurance in cash, was begun a few years ago. The sentiment is gradually crystallizing in favor of it. Business Busi-ness over the country has seemed to have struck a snag. While our government is rich, its citizens are property-poor,' property-poor,' debt-ridden and tax-worried. By putting this money in circulation, business vvtould be-speeded up to just that extent, and not alone the ex-service man and his family would benefit, but everyone. The idea of the soldiers' bonus was to allow provision pro-vision for the veteran and his dependents while he Avas trying to find his niche again in the post-war period, and . was" trying to shake off the mental and physical effects of the war .and become a settled citizen. When the insurance in-surance policies become payable, the ex-service men will be 45, 50 or 55 years okL...If ever he has .been aided, it . will have been by his own efforts, and while the insurance insur-ance payment will be thankfully received, it will not exactly ex-actly serve the purpose for which the compensation was granted. . |
