Show TWO COUNTY TICKETS NOMINATED V Democrats of County Name Strong Ticket lor Coming Com-ing Election A large and militant group of delegates dele-gates attended the Democratic County Coun-ty convention in Minersville, Satur-1 day, October 8, 1932. County Chair- man, J. E. Wilson, piesided tempor-! arily over the convention until the ' following officers were elected: I Sam Cline, permanent chairman of the convention. J. E. Wilson, permanent vice-chairman of the convention. Ray R. Murdoek, permanent secretary. secre-tary. L e s 1 ie Blackburn, Sergeant-at-arms. The first order of business was the election of county chairman, and J. E. Wilson, the incumbent, was sustained sus-tained in that position with H. A. White as vice-chairman, Pratt Root as secretary, and Grace Skinner as associate chair-woman. The following candidates were nominated: R. E. Ellingsworth, Milford, four-year four-year commissioner. Grant H. Tolton, Beaver, two-year commissioner. John P. Barton, Beaver, representative. represen-tative. The office of County Attorney was left blank, to be filled latter by the county executive committee. The following platform was adopted adopt-ed by the convention: We, the Democratic Party of Beaver Beav-er County, Utah, solemnly promise to steadfastly abide by and vigorously support the following policies: We heartily endorse the National Platform of the Democratic Party as adopted by the National Convention. We heartily endorse1 the State Platform of the Democratic Party as adopted by the State Convention. We note with pride the unparalleled unparallel-ed program of road construction undertaken un-dertaken in Beaver County by the State Road Commission under the vigorous leadership of Honorable Henry H-. Blood. We recommend that the Board of County Commissioners take all necessary steps to maintain and augment this program. We particularly par-ticularly recommend to our Commissioners: Commis-sioners: That they strive unceasingly to secure se-cure appropriations from the State Road Commission sufficient to build and maintain a good highway running run-ning westerly from Beaver City, by way of Milford, to the western boundary boun-dary of Beaver County. We point to the undeniable fact that such highways would add materially mater-ially to the amount of traffc and number of tourists traveling in Beaver Beav-er County; would supply a new source of income to our citizens; would knit more closely together the inhabitants of our county; and would furnish labor to many in sore distress. dis-tress. We further recommend that local labor and material be employed on the road construction in Beaver county coun-ty wherever and whenever possible. (Continued from first page) zens to pay their taxes. We deplore the necessity of reducing the monthly month-ly allowances hitherto made to indigents indi-gents and widows. In order to alleviate allev-iate the distress among our worthy poor and the widowed mothers in our midst, and as a public example to our more prosperous citizens, we recommend recom-mend that the county officers of Beaver County voluntarily accept a 10 per cent reduction in their salaries, salar-ies, and that the fund arising from such voluntary reduction be" used for the relief of the unemployed, indigents indi-gents and widows without adequate income. We pledge every effort of our candidates, can-didates, office holders and party members to the abolition of the filing fee now charged for filing income tax reports. We pledge every candidate and office of-fice holder of the Democratic Party to strict governmental economy and the abolition of unnecessary expenses expens-es in connection with county offices. We pledge all and every one of the candidates of the Democratic Party of Beaver County to this platform without reservation or modification. The Democratic Ladies Double-Trio Double-Trio rendered several ery entertaining entertain-ing numbers and were welcomed with hearty applause. |
