Show BEAVER BOY ELECTROCUTED First Fatal Accident of the Fishing Season Occurs When Lad Touches High Tension Line with Steel Fishing Pole. Utah's first fishing season trag-,edy trag-,edy occurred Monday at 4:30 p. m., when James Franklin Bulkley, 15, son of Mrs. Iona B. Brown, was electrocuted elec-trocuted while fishing in the Mammoth Mam-moth canal, at the mouth of Beaver canyon. "I've got one, dad," shouted the boy, who was with his mother and step-father, John W. Brown. The father was on the other side; of the canal and the brush hid the boy from view. A few moments later Mr. Brown heard a sizzling- noise on the wires overhead, and ran to the spot, but at first could not locate the hoy. Beginning a search he saw the boy's foot sticking out of the water. He hauled the body out. The clothes were almost completely burned. His body was seared. Investigation later showed that the; boy had evidently caught his line in the high-tension wire of the Telluride Power Company, when he attemipted to throw, out his fish, and, not wishing wish-ing to break his line, had climbed upon the top of a headgate, some six or seven feet above the ground and attempted to dislodge the hook with the steel pole. When the pole touched touch-ed the high-tention line, he received the full force of the current. Marks on the wheel of the headgate displayed display-ed where the current had passed thru his body and struck the gate. James was the son of Mrs. John Brown, and his step-father is chef at the Low Cafe in Beaver. He was a bright and loveable little chap and sudden death was a great shock to the community. Mr. and Mrs. Blrown departed Tuesday evening with the body for Eureka, their former home, where the funeral will be held and internment inter-nment made. |
