Show EXTREMES IN DEER SITUATION For a number of years there has been &. difference of opinion between the stockmen and sportsmen relative to the deer grazing in the Beaver mountains. The sportsmen have resented a reduction reduc-tion in the numimber of deer, while the stockmen, who hold perV mits, demand a decrease. Owing to the shortage of grazing this season the old question is being revived. This year, however, is a poor time to compare range conditions .owing to the drouth. Even if there had been no deer on the range, there would have I been little grazing. On the other hand there is no doubt but what deer are on the increase in the Beaver mountains. It seems it is a matter that should receive serious consideration, and not "snap judgement." Both stockmen land sportsmen should be willing to conceed to the rights of the other. There is no doubt that the deer are a valuable asset to Beaver clounty. The hunting season brings thousands of dollars to this section, and the deer themselves themselv-es are a great attraction to the vacationists and others who make the Beaver jnountains their summer play grounds. However, they should not be permitted to increase to a point where th'ey superceed the cattle industry neither should drastic action be taken that would exterminate these animals. If it is necessary to reduce the cattle ,on the forest, reduce the deer in a like proportion. propor-tion. Let's avoid extremes in either oase. |
