Show J. A. HAKER VISITS MERCUR. Mr. J. A. Knkcr, a member of the executive ex-ecutive board of tho Western Federation Federa-tion of Labor, visited Mercur union, No. 11)9; lust Monday evening nnd gave a very Interesting talk on the state of affairs af-fairs In Colorado. Mr. linker hnd the honor of being hauled from a union meeting to the bullpen nnd getting n short time to make himself scarce In the vicinity. Mr, Unker, whose home Is In Krltlsh Columbia, and as a Krltlsh subject sub-ject appealed to the Urltlsh Vice-Consul In Denver, who refused to do anything for him In the nature of an nppeul to the Governor In order to assert his rights under the treaty existing between this country nnd Canadn. The Urltlsh Consul Con-sul Is connected with the management of the Argo Smelter compnny, who arc the principal upholders of Pcabody and the owneiB of the Denver Republican, the only paper the men In the bul'pcn nre allowed to read. Mr. Koker's great fault lay In the fact thnt he wnir establishing estab-lishing stores on behnlf of the men In Cripple Creek, Victor, Anacondn nnd Goldflcld. The Citizens' alliance have been taught a good lesson there. The union was the means of other people besides the company with Its boarding houses and company stores doing business. busi-ness. On the declaration of the strike thofte same men formed n Citizens' ul-llance ul-llance against the miners. Now the miners mi-ners nre getting their own stores and the alliance men are feeling It the hardest. Mr. Raker has referred his ense to the Urltlsh Ambassador at Washington. D. C, and the outcome will be watched with Interest. |
