Show O Wait a Week Before Be-fore Investing Because of the prosperity of our farmers, due to this years bounteous harvests, they are being pestered by agents of all kinds, offering var-''ous var-''ous schemes to separate the farmer from his hard earned cash. Many of the investments offered are high'y nnd danfrorrmisiy sne-ulntive. Last year, in Cache valley alone, over hn!f a million dollars were invested in worthless securities. "Before you invest, investigate" is the title of a pamphlet being sent out by Delta business houses. We understand that this is a outgrowth of a meeting held recently, at which prominent businessmen of Delta and neighboring communities discuhsed plans to counteract the efforts of itinorany salesmen, who each year, at harvest time, take out thousands of dollars oof hard earned money for which our people receive little or no value in return. i That cauton in the investment of surplus funds is more necessary now than over before, is apparent when one considers the exceedingly large number of schemes that are being offered. A warning to investors has just been sent out through the columns of tho Salt Lnke Tribune, by Heber . Hicks, director of the Utah State Securities Commission. Tpon his return from the convention of tne National Association of Securities, recently held at Lansing. Michigan, he said: "The real estate mortgage bond has reached a state where it is actually becoming dangerous. At the Lansing meeting many case 5 were cited where the security back of these bonds was not sufficient to cover the issue, and those states that have had to meet these problems prob-lems have sent out warnings to beware be-ware of this class of security, as it is just as speculative and hazardous hazard-ous as many of the securities which have always been classed as highly speculat:ve. The association, before adjourning the convention, authorized author-ized the president to appoint a committee com-mittee to make a thorough investigation inves-tigation in1 o the real estate bond situation and to furnish a report to every member of the National association." asso-ciation." Plans for protecting unsuspecting farmers from the depredations of fake stock peddlers have now been com pie! ed by the Utah State farm bureau. This organization, together with the state Bankers' association, is arranging for an extensive campaign cam-paign in co-operation with many county farmers and bankers' associations, asso-ciations, to rout the promotor of all kinds of worthless entcrpri-es from tho rnri'iltura! dii t ricts. where, it is said, they have taken a heavy toll in the past. |
