Show KINDS OF HAY FOR STEERS Alfalfa, 6orghum and Kaffir Compared aa Roughagea for Fattening Cattle Former la Best. At the Kansas experiment atatlon alfalfa bay, sorghum hay and Kami hay were compared aa roughagea for fattening steers. It was found thai when alfalfa hay waa fed It took only about alx pounds of corn and cob meal lo produce a pound of gain, while when sorghum was fed It took 11.1 pounds of corn and cob meal to produce pro-duce a pound of grain. The figures for the Kafflr hay were ton pounds of the meal for a pound of gain. Experiments at other stations sta-tions Indicate that under similar conditions con-ditions It would take about nine pounds of corn and cob meal to make a pound of gain w hen clover and timothy tim-othy hay were the roughage. |
