Total. To-tal. 176. which Is 16.73 per cent of the enrollment of the district. Just a little lit-tle over half. Thla la a very poor enrollment, considering con-sidering the fa-t that we can have only 7'4 montha of school thla year In which to do nine montha of work. Surely, the parent cannot eipect the teachera to promote the children If they are not In school during the most of this short term. Then. again, the new rourne of study calla for only elsht yearn of work to llnlah the elxht grades, where before we had nine. Thla fact alone Ihould be atlmuloua enough to urge parent to see that their children en rolled at least during the first two weeks, while the certificates, given last spring, are In force. The children who have been present are not wait Inn for those who are absent, bul every day la a new lesson and a new principle or two further ahead. Again, some parents are already ex perlenclng the troubles Incident U children behind In their grade. A great deal of this trouble could b avoided by regular attendance, wblU the children are younger, thereby al lowing them to acquire enough learn Ing before the troublesome age li reached, to give them a liking foi more. After the holidays, we expect, and are assured, that we shall have out new building, then each teacher will have only one and two grades and they will be forced to grade pupil where they can do the work, Irrenpec live of age. Pa rente, If I can say any thing that will aid In securing bettei attendance, that Is what I am strlv Ing for. Lend us your aid and lh school cannot fall In their purpose We are not satisfied to have only one half of the children get the advan tages which Is the birthright of all. Beginning- this week. Monday, Oc tober 5. the plan of work adopted b) the County Superintendent and thf principal In the convention at Fill more, begins to be operative, Chll dren whose absence, from the abov date, until the end of the school yeai I May 8 In our district), does not ex ceed Ave days (two tardy marki counting i of a day's absence) shall be exempt from the final examination If their acholarsblp reaches 83 pel cent or more. While thoe who have teen absent more than 6 days must rench a scholarship of 80 per cent fot exemption. Then again, the new feature adopt rd at the same convention, that ol credit for bom work, alao becotnei oierlle. We truat that all parenti will asaim the teachera In thla work that the school and the borne may b no-e united and greater good accotn pllshed. I'lease da not algn a chlld'i lint of home work If the child com plains or grumbles at the performance perform-ance of the work, or It It la not doni pleasantly. We muat depend upoi you, parents, for this as well as foi the use of the home apparatus to as Ut with the work. Come and vUH u often and talk with the teacheri wherever you see them. Give encour agement and state any objections yoi biay bsve In a sympathetic way an yoi will find the teachers very will n to co-operate with you for th betterment of the schools and ou community. Trusting that this appeal shall tnee with a hearty reaponse In the enroll n cnt cf the children and that It wll not be necessary to resort to the com puIory Isw in any case In our dlstrlc iV.s year, I am.
