The beginning of the construction of the new sugar factory will mark an era in the literary lit-erary and social alVairs of the town which we are in a great measure unprepared un-prepared to meet and the establishment establish-ment of a library would be of great assistance in t h is direction. There will be hundreds of men employed in the fields all next summer and the summers thereafter, and there will also be several hundred men at the factory for a considerable period. In fact about two t birds of the year will be occupied by many extra laborers lab-orers in the vicinity of Delta. These men must all be provided with entertainment en-tertainment and this would be oneof the most economicaly and valuable ways we could go about it. A site for the building would also have to be provided. With the con-' con-' sent of the school board an ideal location lo-cation could bo had in one corner of the school block. It might be well for the city council coun-cil or the commercial club to take this matter up and handle it. Of course when it comes down to the matter of providing for the care of the library after it is installed it would be up to the board to look out for that. Inquiries are being made as to the proper steps to be taken to obtain a Carnegie library and we may say more, regarding it when we know definitely just what steps must be taken. In the meantime mean-time everyone who is interested in this proposition should make their position known and do what they can in the way of working up an interest in the matter. To obtain the benefits of the library fund we must have the beginning of a library on hand ,and we must present pre-sent a petiloin to the library hoard with a certain number of signers to it. We must also guarantee to the board that the money for the maintenance main-tenance of the library must be forthcoming. forth-coming. We are now at a stage where a move of this kind should meet with the approval and support of everyone every-one who makes Delta their trading point. The library would be a grand convenience to every reader in the community and would be a great asset for the pupils and teachers of |
