Show THOUSANDS OF DRAGON FLIES Queer Sight Witnessed by a French Naturalist While Making a Tour Through Morblhan. A professor of soology at Lille, M. Charles Harrlos. was making a tour through Morbllutn, In France. As he waa walking along the road be nottced that a multitude of dragon flies were alighting on the telegraph wires. The singular thing about It was that they all rested at an equal distance from each other, and all occupied the same position, with beud turned toward tha went. , From all sides tho dragon files arrived ar-rived and always placed themselves In the same position, and at tbe same distance from each other. They remained re-mained as If glued to the w Ire, motionless motion-less and paralyzed. Each new arrival flew over the fixed bodies of the others and took Its place in the line. This chain stretched Itself out toward to-ward the west, and turned toward the setting sun. Professor Harrlos followed fol-lowed the route for a long distance and found the same strange phenomenon. phe-nomenon. He estimated the number av 60,000, at least. At an abrupt turn of the road to the soush, the telegraph Hue tamed also. There not a driaxon fly was In sight! The wire was absolutely abso-lutely free from them! With the chi.nge of direction it seemed to have lost attraction for them. Was this chance? Did tbe electric currents running from the east to the west exerolse any influence upon these insects? Was It the sola refutation? re-futation? Kiplaln It, who can. In any case It weuld be interesting to know whether this phenomenon be an bolated one or not. |
