Games were enjoy-ed and a three course luncheon was served. Miss Court was presented with a memorandum wristlet. Mr. and Mrs. Ova Country-man of California are visiting Mr. Countryman's parents Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Countryman. Mrs. W. E. Steffen and daugh-ter have moved from the New England district and have made their home in the Bogan Apart-ments. Mr. and Mrs. W. Jackson are rejoicing over the arrival of a cute baby girl at their home this week. A party wa3 given at the Community church on Wednes-day in honor of Miss Ruth Court who is leaving for a mission in California. Mrs. Avard Ander-son rendered some excellent piano solos, the Misses Kapple contributed some capable duets, Miss Phyllis Evans with R. A. Ellis sang some vocal selections. Ice cream and cake was served and an enjoyable time was spent. Miss Claribel Mace of Sandy is the charming guest of Miss Jean Edwards of the Bourgard Apartments. Copperfield Brevities Mr. and Mrs. II. B. Owen left Saturday for a 3 weeks vaca-tion to Idaho and Yellowstone Park. Mrs. C. Johnson arrived here Monday from American Fork to make her home with her son George Johnson and family. Mrs. Essie Brocklebank and Mrs. J. Denver spent Friday with Mrs. Margaret Park at Lark. Mrs. Joe Buckner and daugh-ter Opal Ford of Osgood Mis-sion are visiting at the home of Mr. arid Mrs. John Ford. Mrs. John Byrne was a Salt Lake visitor Saturday. John E. Brocklebank who has spent tne last two years in Cal-ifornia arrived home Monday. Mrs. Harry Whitten and fam-ily spent Tuesday here with Mrs. Jackson Steel. Mrs. Harry Parker entertain-ed the Mothers' club of the L. D. S. church at her home Wed-nesday afternoon. Luncheon was served to Mrs. John Knud-sen, Mrs. Charles Dixon, Mrs. H. Humphries, Mrs. Joe. Mit-chell, Mrs. George Johnson, Mrs. Sam Robers and Miss Wealtha Rogers. Mr. and Mrs. E. Cunnliffe and Fred Anderson spent Sun-day at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Anderson "of Riv-erton. Reuben Bullock and Jack Smale returned home Monday from a ten days fishing trip at Charleston. Mrs. C. Poulson and small son and the Misses Ruby and Mabel Knudsen returned home Sunday after several days visit with relatives in Park City. Frank Celleventra of Spring-vill- e was a guest at the J. II. Colyar home Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Willis Park of Salt Lake arrived here Monday to make their home. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Long of Grace, Idaho, and Mrs. Wm. Mace of Sandy spent Tuesday here with relatives. Miss Clara B. Mace of Sandy is visiting her sister Mrs. W. Park. " Big Events in the Lives of Little Men j CHIPS AND SHAVINGS ARDUNDJINGHAM Ronnie Rodda the 13 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Rodda of Copperfield who was recently badly burned when he struck some live wires from the roof of the Utah Power and Light Co.'s distributing station at Dinkeyville is recovering, nicely and is expected to leave the Bingham hospital in the near future. Returns of the Dempsey-Gib-bo- ns fight were received at the office of the "Bingham News" by special arrangement from Salt Lake on the Fourth. Chief of Police Frank Thomp-son attended the First Anuual Convention of the Utah State Division of the International Association for Identification which was held at Ogden. Mat-ters of much importance were discussed by Goovernment and State officials, a large number attending. Captain Buller and Dick Hocking of the U. S. Mining Co. were registered at the New Wa-satch hotel at Salt Lake City the past week. A number of Bingham Boy Scouts, Troop No. 1 on the eve-ning of the Fourth climbed to the top of Freeman Peak and with roman candles and other fireworks sent signals to En-sign Peak where the Boy Scouts of Salt Lake City were encamped.. ,The.,,program . was carried out at the request of the Salt Lake Council office. TJie Bingham boys took their lunch-es with them and thoroughly enjoyed the celebration. Assistant Scoutmaster Paul Ransom wishes to notify all boys of 12 years or over they are eligible for membership in Bingham Troop No. 1 who meet every Friday night at the Com-munity Church at 7 :45 p. m. General Superintendent "Josh" Billing and Superintend-ent Joseph Hyland of the Bing-ham Mines Co. were business callers in camp on Monday. The Officers and drill team of the Utah Council of the Se-curity Benefit Association of Salt Lake City will assist in the organization and installation of a new council of the above or-der in Bingham on Monday next at Society hall. The Womens Benefit Associ-ation of the Maccabees will give one of their popular, dances at Society hall on Wednesday July 18th. The "Aces of Harmony" will furnish the music. County Roadmaster Jim Forbes in charge of the Bing-ham district wishes to inform car-owne- rs in Copperfield and Highland Boy that the water sprinkler will be used through-out these districts, regardless of the fact that cars are packed on the streets. The many friends of Mr. and Mrs. E. Underhill will be pleas-ed to learn these popuar people have taken charge of the Mod-ern hotel. Mr. Underhill was formerly connected with "the Woodring Drug store here f5r a number of years. Charles Eisner, an old-tim- er of Bingham paid a flying visit to camp on Wednesday he is now en-rou- te to Baker County, Oregon where the Metal Explor-ation Co. of San Francisco has placed him in charge of 15,000 acres of placer claims. Mr. Eisner states his company is not a stock proposition and was not here seeking any financial aid. Oscar Fullner, former deputy sheriff here was in camp on Tuesday visiting several of his old-tim- e friends. Mr. Fullmer has recently been engaged in the farming business in the valley. Louis Dunn, a former busi-ness man of Bingham, but now of Park City, who was seriously injured the past week in an automobile wreck is recovering slowly from his injuries at the Holy Cross hospital at Salt Lake. Jack Creighton a friend was permitted, to see Mr. Dunn on Thursday, this is the first time since the accident he has been permitted to see any visitors. John Hogan who for the past eighteen months has acted as . agent and carrier for The Salt Lake Tribune on Wednesday filed application for a permit to operate an express and messen-ger service between Bingham and Salt Lake. Mr. Hogan trans-ferred the newspapers daily dur-ing the winter and only on one occasion was he prevented from making the trip on time, on dif-ferent occasions he has been re-quested by persons in Salt Lake and Bingham to deliver articles of small size and weight. James Howard Blair the lit-tle 5 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. I). W. Blair of Copperfield died at the home on Thursday morning of a contagious disease. News Notes From Lark Mr. and Mrs. R. P. UTAH COPPER BAND CAPABLE ORGANIZATION The Utah Copper Reed and Brass Band gave an excellent open-a- ir concert from the porch of the Bingham Mercantile Co. the past week, under the baton of Director Leo. R. Hood, their several musical selections were much appreciated by the large number who congregated. CANYON HALL FIRE NOT SERIOUS The "Bingham News" wishes to correct an, erfouneous report which has been published locally as to the fire which occurred at Canyon hall on the morning of June the 30th, at 3 a. m. the Volunteer Fire Departments quickly responded to the call and once more ably demonstrated to the people of Bingham their ef-ficient fire fighting proclivities, in preventing the spread of the flames to ladjacent buildings, Fire Insurance Underwriters visited the scene of the fire on Monday and estimate the dam-age of the Canyon hall to be $4,000 which is fully covered by insurance. The owners of the building, Chief Deputy Sheriff Ade Heaston, and Harry Steele will commence ng as soon as bids can be secured from local contractors. The floor, .i but slightly damaged, care will be taken however to see the springs of the floor and the foundations are put in the best shape possible, so that the Can-yon hall may still retain the name of having one of the best dance floors in the State. The Garage, situate on the ground floor, was badly damaged by fire as were the eleven cars stor-ed there. Some of the cars were partially insured, and were own-ed by A. L. Heaston, A. C. Cole, A. Williams, L. Buckle, II. W. Carter, Lenn Davis, Ray Ollis, James McMillan, George Wright Rulon Russon and a new Ford, which had only been brought out from Salt Lake about seven hours before the fire occurred, which was owned by G. Sharp. Boost For Paved Roads to Bingham. JOHN STEEL OF LARK FRACTURES COL-LAR BONE John Steel sustained a severe-ly fractured collar bone when he jumped from the running board of W. Crittenden's car on Thurs-day evening. It appears Mr. Steel accepted a ride with Mr. Crittenden while in search of his cows which were grazing on the flat, without permitting the car to come to a complete stop Mr. Steel jumped off with the above results. lie was taken to his home and Dr. Cain was called from Bingham who took him to his office and attended the in-jured member after taking an X-R- ay photo and thoroughly locating the fracture. "MOTHER" FORD SEEKS SUPPORT Mrs. Kate Ford better known to the people tf Bingham as "Mother" Ford filed suit in the Third District Court on Wednes-day asking that an order be made to compel her husiband, James W. Ford who left her here nine years ago to pay her $5U.UU separate mam-tainenc- e. Mrs. Ford was mar-ried in Kentucky in 1878 and is now 67 years of age, and com-plains only on one occasion since he left here as he sent any mon-ey for her maintenance. Local Post American Legion Appoint Delegates The local Post No. 30 of the American Legion held a meet-ing at the Masonic hall on Tues-day evening and elected the fol-lowing members as delegates to the Annual State Convention to be held at Price, Utah, August 2, 3 and 4th. Earl Nepple, Jack Kennedy, Fred Eberhart, George Bolman and Ernest Dean. Having secured the larg-est percentage increase in mem-bership the Bingham Post will head the parade. The member-ship now totals 66. MOTORISTS ARRESTED FOR SPEEDING The "Bingham News" in its issue of June 30 advised mo-torists that it was the inten-tion of Chief of Police Frank Thompson that he would strenuously oppose speeding in the city limits. On account of the narrowness of the streets and the large amount of traffic it is necessary to confine the rate of travel to 15 miles per hour within the city limits. Notwithstanding the fact a number of speeders were arrest-ed oh Sunday evening for ex-ceeding the speed limit of the city ordinance.
