Show Were We're Proud Today the University of Utah is is celebrating g her eighty- eighty fourth anniversary Educators students and citizens look back with respect on the day when sturdy pioneers laid the f foundation for an institution which has served as as the Alma Mater of thousands of students students' This great school had a humble beginning in m a small log g cabin However since since that time it has passed through various stages of development until it has gained national prominence and is is now fully recognized and accredited in in American and foreign halls of learning The University has become endeared to the people of the state it has served and has been solely b by th the e people of the state The struggle for advancement has bee been n difficult for assistance by philanthropy has been almost negligible neg neg- Notwithstanding numerous Notwithstanding numerous obstacles the university has s been perpetuated and has advanced and progressed Buildings Building s ha have e been built the scholarship standards have been beets raised excellent equipment has been obtained and a highly trained faculty provided 4 Students I nt of the thc university during the past four eighty-four i years have gained prominence and won honors in in every field o of f endeavor Evidence that the institution is still progressing is is given give n by the fact that during the past year Mortar Board and Phi Beta Kappa two of the outstanding honor organizations in in th the e country have further enhanced the prominence of the U b by y granting charters for organizations on the campus In addition addition addition addi addi- tion to this the George Thomas Library which will be one o othe of f the most modern structures in m the west is in in the course o of f construction The University of Utah is is indeed a school of opportunity i and under under the guidance of the present able administration n greater progress can be reasonably expected Our pause to pay deference to the founding is is but a mere mer e gesture of our appreciation to the founders and all those wh who o have contributed to the advancement of the school |
