Show Prosperity on Borrowed Money One should look at the present easy money, the present flow of prosperity, as the result of the money mon-ey borrowed on bonds U. S. Bonds the proceeds of which went into purchases, high wages, and all that goes with rapid spending. This money was borrowed from all bondholders, from every citizen. It was spent. There will be appalling ap-palling waste; the prosperity is not normal, and will not last. For us, the little community of Delta, it is for us to look to our farms for steadiness, for prosperity, and not to the big industrial centers. We should look to our livestock, and land, those things that are stable, sta-ble, and not be lost in the maze of looking at Detroit. De-troit. For Detroit and its likes will holler the soonest soon-est and the loudest when the inevitable turn comes. Borrowing always brings prosperity at the time. But it also brings a headache. For unless the money mon-ey was spent for things profitable in industrial economy, econ-omy, the money is wasted. All borrowed money must be paid back. And in that comes the headache. We have seen it at close hand in our own local bond issues. Easy to float; rgood money circulating while spending it, but O how bitter paying it back! I like the LDS Church advice to its members Get out of debt, .NOW, while things are good, while money is easy. It is good advice. And should be taken. I also like their own Welfare Plan, which is good. That of the nation, not so good. |
