Show War Bride from France Arrives Soon in Delta Evnn Bird went to Salt Lake City Tuesday to meet his wife, Mrs. Micheline Dehu Bird, who arrived there Wednesday morning at 9. Mrs. Bird has been travelling several sev-eral weeks on her way here from France. She and Mr. Bird were married in France early this spring while he was stationed there in the service. Mr. Bird has been at home several weks and received his discharge at Ft. Douglas. After a few days in Salt Lake City he and his bride will return to Delta where they will make their home. 24 April 1946 1st Lt. George G. Chambers, son of Mrs. A. E. Chamber Cham-ber of San Antonio, Texas, has been released at the Fort Douglas separation center. His wife, the former Miss Eloise Law, has been making her home in Delta. Lt. Chambers, who served 42 months in the States with the air corps, is authorized to wear the A-merican A-merican theater ribbon, and the Victory ribbon. He received his commission in the air corps, March 3, 1943. Prior to entering the army Oct. 6, 1942, Chambers was a student at Texas A & M college. Neldon Van Winkle who served with the Merchant Marine in the Pacific area, and now released and residing in San Francisco, is visiting visit-ing his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Van Winkle. H A 1c Talmadge Christensen was released on April 7. He entered en-tered the service on February 14, 1945. His boot training was taken at San Diego, California, doing Specialist H. work throughout. This division of the work was closed clos-ed later and "Chris" was assigned to the Hospital Corp. entering the hospital school at the Dublin Navy Hospital, Georgia. He is now teaching school at the Hinckley High School, replacing for the time being Verdell Bishop. P F C Benjamin Rob:son, of the Marines, was discharged on April 25, 1946. His boot training was received re-ceived at San Diego, where Ben spent four months at the Marine rifle range as coach, after his boot training. He then spent six months on the Marine corps base at San Diego as pay clerk. During his entire time in the Marines, Ben was L. D. S. group leader on the Marine base. WT3C Harold Wayne Humphries S5th N C B, received release from the U. S. Navy on April 16 at Shoemaker, Shoe-maker, California. He reached his home on April 20. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Humphries of Hinckley. Wayne entered the navy on August 19, 1944. His boot training train-ing was obtained at Farragut, Idaho. Ida-ho. He was in Camp Parks, Calif., and Port Hueneme, before going overseas.While overseas he worked with the Seabees at New Hebrides, Marshall Islands, Guam, Wake and Pearl Harbor. Leo Conk, son of Rose Conk of Deseret, and Henry Conk of Provo, left Deseret April 20 for San Diego where he enlisted in the navy. He writes home that he is having a lot of fun, but it looks like that fun is going to end. And he had found it to be true what they say about sizes in the navy, either too big or too little. There have been lots of enlistments, and in the crowd of young men there he had located one other boy from Utah. And he had had no mail from his home yet. |
