J Law came to Delta Delta Delta Del Del- ta last Saturday Mr and nd Mrs Law received a wire informing them of the death of ot their son as a result of a crash near the naval base at al Norfolk Virginia Rondo was born in Delta on Jan 8 1914 a son of Mr and Mrs Robert J. J Law He attended the elementary schools in Delta and graduated from the Delta high school During his high school years Rondo was an active active active ac ac- ac- ac tive athlete of considerable ability I taking part In basketball football and was a member of the track team After graduation here he enrolled for forone forone forone one year at the Branch Agricultural College in Cedar City where he continued continued continued con con- to be active in all sports From here Rondo went to the B Y U In Provo Provo Provo Pro Pro- vo where he spent three years graduating graduating graduating grad grad- In 1937 with a B. B S. S degree During his years years at the B Y U Rondo still was prominent tn In sports and made the track team there and won honors as a javelin thrower He enjoyed enjoyed enjoyed en en- joyed many distant trips with the team to other c colleges s to compete for his school He belonged to the B Y U USki USki USki Ski Club and to the Brigadier social unit After graduating from college Rondo Rondo Rondo Ron Ron- do enlisted as a a naval air cadet at Oakland where he he received prelimInary preliminary preliminary prelim prelim- inary training for one month before going to the naval flying school at Pensacola Florida from which he re received received received re- re his commission as an ensign in 1939 On Nov 11 1939 he was married foRena Co fo CoRena Rena Carling daughter of Mr and Mrs Elmer Carling of Fillmore They spent one year in ln Hawaii where RonI Rondo Rondo Ron- Ron I do was stationed and last February I a son was born to them In March I he was transferred to duty to the United United United U- U States and he has as been serving in Norfolk Va Until the time of the fatal accident His wife left Hawaii with her infant son about a month ago and was met in San Francisco by Mrs F. F S. S Nelson and the two drove back to Delta L Law w visited visited visited visit visit- ed here and In Fillmor Fillmore with her garnets par par- nets until June 18 when she received word from Rondo to come on to Virginia Virginia Virginia Vir Vir- ginia to be with him there She left here with Mr and Mrs Dallas Rogers to accompany her and when she attempted attempted attempted at- at tempted U to to get In touch with her husband husband husband hus hus- band to make arrangements to meet I him she was informed that he had met with a serious serious' accident and to call caIl her father for the particulars Her brother Junius Carling took the Sunday Sunday Sunday Sun Sun- day morning plane for Virginia to meet her and to assist fn In making flaking the arrangements there During the years years' Rondo spent in Delta ev everyone knew v and respected him for his cheerful even disposition He was never known to lose his temper temper temper tem tem- per or his smile in any situation Always Always Always Al Al- ways his calmness and pres presence nce of mind pulled him trough with a grin and a determination to do it differently differently differently differ- differ and more successfully the next time In all his experience In competitive competitive com competitive com com- sports his fairness and and determination determination deter deter- made it a pleasure for his ills hist t team am mates to work with him He al always always always al- al ways put his very best Into everything everything every every- thing and was a good loser If that was the situation Rondo won his Eagle Scout badge and was Scoutmaster In t the e Delta 1st ward and through his service to the Scouts he won many a loyal admirer He was captain of the the- R. R J. J Law softball softball softball soft- soft ball team for some time and helped push the M Men basketball team to the front In October of last year he had hada a furlough furlough furlough fur fur- lough and came to Delta for a visit with his parents When he returned to the coast const his parents drove him down where h he he showered them with rith every courtesy courtesy and attention They last saw Rondo on his ship the Yorktown York York- to town to where he had taken them for or dinner He e was a son to be proud of always bringing them joy and never nevera a minute of or- worry The many tributes that have been paid to Rondo by his teachers friends and classmates show the high esteem esteem es es- teem In which they held him One of ot his navy shipmates Ensign Ladd Gardner who spent the last ten days with Rondo said he had heard him express many times how proud he was vas to be In the Navy doing his part partIn partIn partIn In a pioneering field of which so lit little Ut- Ut tle tie Is yet known He had a part to todo todo todo do and did it t well as he had always done His good clean character has Continued on back page aie 1 J.
