Show Make Quick Trip Home - Furlough Friday, Feb. 22, at 10:30 p. m. Calvin Dutson, ol! Oak City, drove in at the Harry Crane Ranch at Delta and unloaded Grant Crane, with his wife and baby. As Grant had orders to be back at Fort Warden, War-den, which is about 50 miles northwest north-west of Seattle, on Monday morning, morn-ing, the two young servicemen were only home for 24 hours when they left on the return trip. Grant has been studying Diesel engineering under Engineers Boat and Shore regiment, which has charge of operating small boats with 4 or 5-men crews and propelled prop-elled by two 225 hp Diesel engines. They are used to help unload large ships in shallow harbors. He will be sent to San Diego soon to the naval base to get experience ex-perience with the boats in rough water for 5 to 6 weeks. Then he will be returned to Fort Warden. In the meantime Mrs. Crane and the baby are with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Byron Carter of Hinckley. Another year's training, Harry Crane says, should make Grant a good Diesel tractor operator. |
