Show i MILLARD COUNTY CHRONICLE Delta, Utah, Thurs., July 26, 1951 Mrs. Claude Sanders, Sr., recov-ering from rheumatic fever at her home in Sutherland. She returned recently from a two weeks stay in the Fillmore hospital where she went for treatment. Mr. and Mrs. E. A: Lyman and sons, Leo and Loe spent the early part of the week on a trip through western Montana. Mr. and Mrs. Al Willden and fam ily are home after a trip through Yellowstone and the northwest last week. Mr. and Mrs. Reed Baker of Bicknell visited in Delta Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Orville Turner. Their daughters, Sharla and Gwen who have been visiting here, re- -' turned home with them. Fidelity Chile Holds Meeting Slides of Hawaii and souvenirs were shown and discussed at the Fidelity Club meeting held Thurs-day evening at the home of Mrs. Romania Bird. Miss Carol Hansen was guest speaker. Dinner was served to members, Mrs. Bird Hannah Larsen, Artie Henderson, Clara Killpack, Ada Johnson, Donna Sorensen, Moline Gardner, Ora Gardner, Amelia Cole Ava Starley, Zola Wright, Ella Black, and Luella Nickle and to guests, Miss Hansen and Joann Bird. Bridgidiers Hold IHiuier Party The Bridgidiers met at a "no hostess" party Thursday evening. Starting with dinner at the Gem cafe, members and guests then went to the home of Mrs. Helen Baker to play cards. Table prizes were won by Loa Black, CfUlie Morrison, and Marian Knox. Guests were Loa Black and May-bell- e Johnson, members present were Mrs. Baker, Mrs. Morrison, Mr. Knox, Mae Holman, Liz Pace, Merlene Callister, Mary Hunsaker, Lois Hinckley, Verna Walch, and Norma Pearson. Are In Revue Twelve students of the Delta classes of the Lowe Dance studios participated in the "Gobs of Rhy- - j thm, a Nautical Impossibility" dance revue in Fillmore Friday evening. Skipping all over the world, nine dances from different countries were presented. Dancing in the Russian dance were Margery Wright, Karen Pearson, Dick Dav-idson, Michael Rose, and Lester Moody. Lorene Black, Carol Cham-berlain, Wally Beth Holman, Ann Kelly, Julia Lambright, Janice Wes-tern and Renee Willden danced the slave dance of Morocco. Mr. and Mrs. Angus Myers went to Salt Lake City last week to at- tend the funeral services for Mrs" Bruhn, the mother-in-la- of their son, Elmo. Mr. and Mrs. Ray GardneTspem the early part of the week in Pres-ton, Idaho at a Swann family re- -' union. The Six Stitchettes held their ninth meeting at the home o'f Shir-ley Christensen. Sewing, basting, and cutting out patterns was done. The next meeting will be at the home of KatherLne Callister. BSacL. Rock MRS. MERRILL MILLER Mrs. Kay Reese, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. M. Adair, returned to her home in Palo Alto, Calif. The Adairs reported that Mrs. Reese had a very enjoyable trip. Weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Merrill Miller were Mr. and Mrs. Nathan W. Davis and Mr. and Mrs. E. Olsen, all of Salt Lake City. Everyone has been thankful for the rains which have occurred dur-ing the past week. Approximately .61 inches of rain feel at Black Rock during the three days of storm. Mr. and Mrs. D. M. Adair reported that at their home north of Black Rock early Friday evening a hail storm struck the Cricket mountains. Most of the cedar trees were partially stripped as a result. Some damage was done to the roof of the Adair home. Dallas Rogers and Supt. A. M. Maughan, both of Fillmore, were visitors at the H. C. Burke home. Mr. and Mrs. Reed Turner and family are vacationing on Boulder mountain this week. Mr. and Mrs. faul Black and family of Houston are visiting with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Nels Black. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Ashby and family are spending the week in Yellowstone. Mr. and Mrs. Cleo Whicker were in Provo Sunday. From where I sit, when psycho-logists try to set up a standard for a sense of humor they're getting too serious for me. Stands to rea-son that different people laugh at different things, just as they hare different tastes for most every-thing. I'm partial to a glass of beer with meals myself but I promise not to make any "wise-cracks" if you prefer tea. Just finished reading a magazine article that "proves" you and I don't know what's funny. A bunch of psychologists came to this sad conclusion after telling jokes to college students. Very often they would give out with what they considered a side-split- -. ter and not get even a chuckle in response. Other times the stu-dents would laugh their heads off at stories that weren't considered really funny. UTAH Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Roper and family, formerly of Lynndyl, are now making their home in Delta. Miss GeraldLne Evans is spend-ing the 24th in Payson. Mrs. Jennie Largent and nephew Dick Hollingshead met her sister, Mrs. Mima Barnard in Ogden and the trio went on to Denver to visit another nephew, Mr. Allen Briggs, for a week. Miss Bonnie Largent is vacation-ing in St. George, visiting her cou-sin, Mrs. Phyllis Lambson Seegmil-le- r. Misses Carol and Barbara Bishop are visiting their aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Norris Larsen in Brigham City. Frank Baker, Max Black, Reggie Pearson, and Keith Barben were in Salt Lake City over the 24th. Mr. Kenneth Skidmore of Mar-tinez, Cal., drove to Delta to join his family who have been visiting his wife's parents, Mr .and Mrs. P. T. Black, for his vacation. Steven Bywater of Salt Lake City is visiting his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Underhill. Leona Jackson of Fillmore visit-ed over the week end with her sister, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Baker. Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Stephenson of Cedar City were in Delta early in the week enroute to Salt Lake City where they attended the 'fun-eral of Dr. H. Wayne Driggs on, Wednesday. They said the entire faculty of the BAC were attending the services of Dr. Driggs, president of the BAC, who died Saturday of Leukemia after a short illness. Mr. Sterling K. Peterson, repres-entative of the Social Security Of-fice, will be in the courthouse at Fillmore on Tuesday, July 31, at 1 p. m. in accordanec with a reg-ular monthly schedule of provid-ing assistance to residents in this area. Mr. Owen George brought his young granddaughter, Susan, down from Salt Lake City to visit them for a few days. Susan is the dau-ghter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl George. Mr. and Mrs. J. Avery Bishop were in Buhl, Idaho, the first part of the week attending a family reunion. Mr. and Mrs. Albert "Huntoon of Colton, Cal., visited with Mr. and Mrs. Willard Stephenson Monday enroute to a vacation in Neb. Mr. and Mrs. Grant Church and family have gone on a fishing trip up through lakes and reservoirs in northern Utah. Lucille Hyer, of Lewiston, Utah, has been staying at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Rulon D. Anderson for the past week. Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Losee and family spent Wednesday in Salt Lake City on a pleasure trip. On Thursday they visited in Payson, with army friends of Mr. Losee's who were having a party to re-new old times. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hollingshead and family of Milford visited over the 24th with his brother, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Hollingshead. |
