Jay Nelson of Leamington announce the appro-aching marriage of their daughter, Glenna, to Mr. Ronald W. Nelson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wesley A. Nel-son of St. George, Utah. The marriage will take place in the St. George temple, Sept. 8. A reception will be given in their honor that evening in the LDS Institute building in St. George. The young couple are both grad-uates of the Dixie Junior College. Class of 41 Holds Party Bain Friday dashed many spirits of the DHS graduating class of 47 but the few who did turn out for the canyon party in Oak Creek Canyon followed by the dance at Delta enjoyed visiting with each other. Those who came were Mr. and Mrs. Donald Poulson, Mr. and Mrs. Hale Jeffery, Mr. and Mrs. Grant Nielson, Mr. and Mrs. Richard May, jlr. and Mrs. Don Killpack, Don Pratt, Helen Turner, Duane Erick-so- n, Virginia Henrie, Ray Need-ha- m and Ha Fullmer. Primary Meeting Held In Canyon The Monthly Primary preparation meeting of the Delta 1st ward was held in the cool of Oak Creek Can-yon Wednesday afternoon and was followed by a party. Refreshments weer hamburgers with the .trim-mings and ice cream. Present weer Clara Bennett, Af-to- n Law, Maribah Windsor, Phillis Windsor, Marjory Gardner, Thelma Watts, Waiora Jeffery, Josephine Pratt, Leona Works, Dorothy Jef-fery, Donna Jeffery, Enid Hopkins, Elva Stone, and Annie Leavitt. lloval Neighbors Are Entertained Dinner was served and rook was played Friday evening as Royal Neighbors Club was entertained by Mrs. Bessie Judd as her home. Guests were her sister, Mrs. Jean Bettenson, Mrs. Hattie Harris, Mrs. Becky Beckstead, and Mrs. Ella Black. Club members in attend-ance were Mrs. Hazel Cahoon, Mrs. Savalla Sanford, Mrs. Iva Mitchell, Mrs. Abbie" Prestwich, Mrs. Luella Swalberg, Mrs. Irene Little, and Mrs. Ava Starley. Mrs. Harris won the guest prize prize and Mrs. Little the low prize. Party Is Held Hy S.S. Class A swim, feast, and show made up an evening of fun for the Delta 2nd ward advanced School junior Sunday class Wednesday as Ray Church and Ladd Black, teachers directed the party. Present were Howard Warner Alma Hoffines, Noel Twitchell Vic- tor Hunsaker, Beulah Barney' Prestwich, Leah Church, 'ver-n- a Jean Sorenson, Ronilla Hunsaker Dora Ann Sorenson, Lael Hilton, Ferrel Willden, Margaret Hansen, Merna Moore, Owen Cahoon, Billy Henderson, Tommy Callister, Phil-lip Smith, Kent Schlappi, and Phil Brunson. A 20 lb., 37 M. inch Mac was lan-ded by a young boy at Fish Lak.. last week with the aid of Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Searle who were vac-ationing there. The Searles repor: that after the boy hooked the fisi: the hook worked loose but the lin. tangled around its tail. He reel-ed until he was given out then he yelled, "Help, help" Mr. and Mrs. Searle rowed to his aid and Mi. Searle netted the fish for the boy. They said it looked like he wa. bringing in a shark as the pullin;; on the tail made the fins cut the water like movie pictures of shark.. The Delta Second Ward Youth Choir, under the direction o'i Ladd Black and Joe Moody, held a party J in Oak Creek Canyon Saturday ' afternoon . Over 25 young people participated. Visiting Mr. and Mrs. Rulon Cal-lister last week were their friends, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Morgan and chil dren, Jackie, Jimmy and Karen o Los Angeles, Cal. Mr. Morgan is an engineer with the General El-ectric Company. He and Mr. Cal-lister became friends while attend-ing school at Schenectady, New York, where both families were active in the LDS branch. Mr. and Mrs. Merlin Christensen Mr. and Mrs. Evan Christensen and Mr. and Mrs. Lathel Callister arrived home Thursday from a fishing in Thumb Lake in the Tet-ston- e. While the three men wer.e fishin gin Thumb Lake in the Tet-on range, they saw the electrical storm hit the mountains where five young girls were killed by lightning. Oak Creek Site For Steele Meet More than 300 descendants of John Steele, an early settler in Salt Lake Valley, are expected at the family reunion in Oak Creek Canyon Saturday beginning at 10 a. m. Officers planning the activities are Doyle Steele, president; Mrs. Doyle Steele secretary; Wanda Cox historian; Mina Steele and Abbie Prestwich, dinner; and Chlora Twit chell, genealogist. Pfc. Ivie J. Nielson, native resi-dent of Lynndyl, Utah has been assigned to the 3463rd School sqdn. of the U. S. Air Force at New Mexico Western College Silver City N.M. Nielson is one of the fifth group of 50 men to arrived at Wes-tern. The squadron, which will main a level of 300 men, is being schooled to become clerks and ty-pists for the air force. It is quar-tered right on the college campus. Thex Lynndyl man came to New Mexico Western on May 30 after being stationed at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. Before entering the service he at-tend Delta high school. PFC Niel-son is the son o'C Mr. and Mrs. Irving J. Nielson, Lynndyl. His train ing at New Mexico Western will continue for 12 weeks. Mr. and Mrs. E. P. Morgan of Riverton visited with their daugh-er-in-la- Barbara Morgan, and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Spencer Wright Tuesday. Their son, Mr. Don Morgan, will arrive iri Delta Thursday to meet his wife and daughter. They then will go to Wilbur, Washington, where Mr. Morgan will teach this year. Margaret Roper Entertains Hoard Mrs. Margaret Roper entertained members of the Deseret Stake Pri-mary board Friday evening in Oak City. The group looked at and dis-cussed the stake scrapbook they had compiled. Chlora Twitchell gave a humorous reading and Mrs. Roper gave a toast to each lady as she presented them with hand tatted handkerchiefs she had made Dinner was served. Ladies there were Zella Lovell, Eleanor Nielson, Blanche Crafts, Lucille Hales, Wanda Beckwiith, Lucille Stapley, Chlora Twitchell, Macel Anderson ,Lola Dalton, Ad-di- Hansen and Clarissa Black. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Swalberg are vacationing this week at Sun Val-ley, Idaho. Myrtis Smith, sister of Beth An-derson, was operated an Friday at St. Marks hospital for injuries in ankles caused by polio several years ago. It is hoped that the operation will make it easier for her to walk. Dr. and Mrs. Leo Bronk and children of Salt Lake City visited with her sister, Mr. and Mrs. June Black and family. Dr. Bronk is an intern at the Veteran's hospital. Mrs. Angie Warner arid Mrs. Fern Warner spent Monday in Fillmore visiting with friends and relatives. They chose and brought home some lovely iris plants. Leslie Wright and Mr. and Mrs. Evan Theobald. Jerry Callister, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lathel Callister, was a medical patient at the Delta hospital this past week. Robert L. Heyborne, son o'f Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Heyborne of Delta, was called back into the Navy as a reservist and is now stationed at Memphis, Term. He is teaching electronics at the aviation officers school there. Robert was formerly program manager for radio station KSUB in Cedar City. His wife and family are making their home with him at Kerrville, Tenn. Mrs. Heyborne reports that Rob-ert had intended to ask for a commission but hadn't done it at the time he was called. If he had been commissioned, he would have been sent to the school as a stu-dent where he is now a teacher. Mr. and Mrs. Hamilton McCul-loug- h and family visited Zions and Bryce Canyons last week enroute to Escalante to visit relatives. His mother, Mrs. Sarah McCullough, who had been visiting there, re-turned home with her son and family. Mr. and Mrs. Owen Gardner and Mrs. Richard Gardner and son are visiting their parents Mr. and Mrs. George Sparks, of Nampa, Idaho. I , Hinckley News LYLA RAE TALBOT Mr. and Mrs. Loren Talbot and Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Skeem at-tended the Talbot Reunion in Salt Lake City on Saturday. They re-organized and Loren Talbot was chosen to be the new president. He chose as his helpers, Cecil Tal-bot and Mark Talbot. Next year the reunion will be held at Arrow-head Resort near Payson, Utah. The Cropper reunion was to be held on the 17 and 18 of August, but due to the Days of the Old West celebration being held on that date it has been postponed until the 26th of August. It is to be held in Salt Lake at Fairmount park. Kathryn Ekins has gone to Salt Lake this week to visit with the Mclntoshes there. She will return this week end. Bertha Love and two sons, left Hinckley Tuesday morning to go to Boise, Idaho. Mrs. Love will drive as far as Layton in her car. She will leave her car and two boys there to visit with relatives and will go by plane on into Boise where she will visit with her sister Mrs. Pat Patterson. Wilmer Woodbury is home on a furlough this week. He is spend-ing it with his folks and brothers and sisters. Mr. Hyrum Tanner and son, El-vi- n left for Los Angeles Tuesday morning. Ladd Cropper was in Salt Lake City last week. He goes up each week where he is taking treat-ments for his health. Mr. and Mrs. Ross Hilton and family spent Saturday and Sunday in Salt Lake . Mr. and Mrs. Larsen, Danish con-verts to the LDS Church from Den-mark spent part o'f the summer liv ing in Hinckley last summer. This year they have made their home in Salt Lake City. A few days ago Mrs. Larsen had a sun stroke and is quite ill. Mrs. R. Swensen has one of her boys staying at her home and Mrs. Randell has anoth-er one. The girl is visiting in Oak City. Margene Hilton spent the past week in Salt Lake visiting with her relatives. Geraldine and Helen Black are in Holden visiting with their grand mother there. Sharon Hardy held a party at her house Tuesday night. A few small guests were invited and given a weiner roast. Buron Robinson visited in Hinck-ley this week. He has been in Oregon for the past while . A surprise party was held for Cinthie Ann Wheton last week. Many small guests were invited and games were played and re-freshments served to the children. Everyone had a lovely time. Tommy Scott, small grandson of Goldwyn Cluff, who has been vis-iting here for the biggest share of the summer will return to Calif-ornia Wednesday. Ronald Nielson and friends, De Marr Shifty, spent the week end home. They are working at Hill Field. Harriet Spendlove entertained the Rook Club at the home of Mrs. Lafe Nielson last week. The book report was in charge o'f Mel-b- a Nielson. She got Carol Hansen to give a report on the 22 months she spent teaching school over in Hawaii. Carol talked for about two hours on the customs and the land of Hawaii. She came dressed in Hawaiian attire. She showed little souvenirs that she had brought back with her. Guest and members at the club were Harriet Spendlove, Melba Nielson, Sebrina Ekins, Ruth Tal-bot, Bertha Love, Erma Cropper, Shirley Christensen, Reva Talbot, Winnie Wright, Ruth Robinson, An-gie Pratt, Helen Shurtliff, Betty Jane Morris, Belva Morris, Elaine Hardy, Lorna Buhanan, and Carol Hansen. A delicious lunch was prepared and served by Harriet Spendlove. Monday July 30, a party was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Raleigh Franklin. The gang that went deer hunting met once again and held this lawn party. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Tolbert, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Tol-ber- t, Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Tol-bert, Mr. and Mrs. Karl Murray, Mr. and Mrs. Grant Hardy, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Petersen, Mr. and Mrs. Blaine Spendlove, Mr. and Mrs. Cluff Talbot and Mr. and Mrs. Raleigh Franklin. A delicious lunch was served after which they en-joyed films that were taken at the time of the deer hunt. Every-one had a lovely time at the party. Mr. and Mrs. Cluff Talbot en-tertained the Talbot and Warner relation at a lawn party last Mon-day night. Games were played and a weiner roast with all the trimmings was the main event of the evening. Guests present were Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Warner, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Warner, Mr. and Mrs. Jay Warner, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Talbot, Mr. and Mrs. Raleigh Frank lin, Mr. and Mrs. Rulon Bennett, Mr and Mrs. Lynn Talbot, Mr. and Mrs. Dean Talbot, Mr. and Mrs. Vaughn Bennett, Mr. Goldwyn Cluff and Craig Tanner. The party was given 'for Mr. and Mrs. Jay Warner. She received many lovely gifts. Everyone enjoyed the party ery much and the evening was spent in nothing but a lot of fun. |
