Show 40 YEARS AGO . . i - - From the Files .... THE DOINGS AT DELTA John Steele moved his family into his new house just east of the depot last Saturday. Only two ' rooms are habitable, but houses! are so scarce he had to vacate to I make room for another family and will complete his new residence as fast as possible. It is a new thing in house construction here, being built of an inner and and outer wall of steel lath covered with cement plaster and an outer coating of rough grouting. It is an attractive looking building with a wide eaves and the roof broken with gables and dormer windows. Talk about rushing work, but Knight and Marshall have certainly certain-ly have been going some in running run-ning up the new hotel. They began work putting up the frame on the a'fternoon of the 23rd and at the present time the rustic is all an, the roof is shingled, the lathing lath-ing is nearly completed and the floors are being rapidly laid. Eccles & Son are making an addition to their business in the shape of a bake oven where they can make all kinds of bread, pastry, etc. The doors and castings are on hand and the oven will be ready for operation in a short time. The Hub Mercantile Co. has just shipped the third car of wheat to California. It is a good grade and the farmer realized about $1.18 per' hundred sacked. The Chronicle has just printed for N. S. Bishop an attractive book let about the opportunities offered offer-ed at Delta for farmers, business men, mechanics and others. Mr. Bishop is a genuine booster and proposes to do his share towards inducing 'immigrants to come to Millard county. M. A. Abbott returned this week from his old home in Sevier county where he took his family three weeks ago tor the winter. Mr. Abbott Ab-bott will remain on his farm here with his daughter as housekeeper. He didn't do so bad on his 60 acres, ac-res, having threshed 950 bushels of wheat and 1180 bushels of oats. This from land that had nothing on it but greasewood a year ago. EVENTS AT OAK CITY Simeon Walker imported a pure-, bred Jersey calf, from Provo last week. The apple crop is exceptionally good this year owing to the good care the fruit growers took of their trees. Willis J. Lyman was up from school Saturday picking apples. He has a fine orchard, which has been well taken care of. If anybody had been looking for A. M. Roper they would have had a hard time finding him Sunday, Sun-day, you could not see him for the smile on his face. After successfully suc-cessfully raising five girls the last addition to the family was a boy, born Sunday. Mother and child are doing fine. Dr. Broaddus of Deseret was in attendance. DOINGS DOWN AT DESERET We are having lovely weather for this time of the year, and the health of the people is fine. Mr. Peter Christensen of Abraham Abra-ham was accidentally shot last week while unloading his bedding from a wagon, the revolver falling fal-ling out, striking the hammer and causing it to shoot him. The bullet entered his left side and is lodged in the fleshy part of the body under un-der the shoulder blade. Dr. Broad- |
