Show USS Boxer Brings Four Deltans Home On Leaves After operating more than si? i months in Korean waters, the aircraft air-craft carrier USS Boxer arrived in San Diego, Oct. 24. Aboard were four young Deltans who are now spending their leaves in Delta with families and friends. They are Joseph L. Ellis, YN1, Roger Edwards, AD3, Gerald Dean Broderick, SN, and Ward D. Davis, aviation machinist's mate, third class. Their parents are Mr. and Mrs. Joe Ellis Mrs. Pearl Stapley, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Broderick, and Lee Davis. The Boxer arrived to an enormous enor-mous welcome, with the dock crow ded with relatives and friends to welcome the crew ashore. Since arriving in the Far East in March, the Boxer's air-group, which consists of seven squadrons, has made more than '7,000 strikes against North Korean targets. The squadrons, which include Composite Squadrons 3, 61, 35, and 11, and Fighting Squadrons 721, 8791, and 884, and Attack Squadron Squad-ron 702, are all former "Week end Warriors" ordered to active duty at the outbreak of hostilities in Korea. In addition to flying air strikes against the Communist, 90 per cent of the Boxer's crew contributed to the Armed Forces whole-blood drive, before the ship left Korean waters. |
