Show Wanda Beckwith took her two lit tie girls to San Francisco last Friday, Fri-day, but almost made the trip by way of Seattle. She had a berth on Oar 9 berth 9, and so she and her sister Mary chucked the kids into the berth and went to the women's room where they could chew the fat waiting for the train to take off. It the room was another woman with whom 1 they started la conversation. And, as with all travelers, they got to talking about their destinations. Wanda was going to San Francisco and the woman was going to Seattle. Seat-tle. Both parties marveled on how the railroad company could put all the people in the same car and and then take them to different places, and places so far distant from each othar. The talk went on in that line for some 15 minutes and until both Wanda and the woman got to wondering if the railroad really had made those innovations where by people could get on one car and then stay there and end up in different places. Doubt began to assail both of them and the porter was summoned to put their fears to rest. He put the woman's fears to rest but he upset Wanda by telling her that she was really going to Seattle. Hastily wrapping the kids in their robes a change of berths to several cars away was made and it is supposed that Wanda continued contin-ued on and got to San Francisco, and not by way of Seattle. Well, I must quit now and burn matches under the thermometer. It doesn't warm up the atmosphere iany but one feels better seeing the thermometer finally struggle above zero. Toots. I - - |
