Show Chatter Box Dear Suzy, He floats through the air with the greatest of ease can hardly be said about Paul Whicker and his acrobatic and trapeze ability. Because Paul came to a cropper when he decided there was a future in pogo sticks and he would be a performer on one. It seems that Paul and Freda and Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Hawley and the kids were in Las Vegas seeing the sights. One of the sights was the pogo stick concession in which they took part. The kids did right well with them and then it was the grown ups turn. Med and wife did fair, Freda did reasonably reas-onably and then it was only Paul left to do his stuff. Med had a little more experience experi-ence on them than did Paul and he should have warned him thoroughly thor-oughly what to expect. He should have said, "Paul I want you to stay away from the pogo sticks, they are treacherous, deceitful, dangerius and you may receive bodily injury." But instead all Med said to Paul was, "Watch it Paul, they tricky." So Paul mounted his pogo stick and started off doing what the others had been doing, but not quite so well. All of a sudden Paul came down as the pogo stick came up with quite a disastrous effect to his head. The end of the pogo stick caught Paul on the ad-am's ad-am's apple so hard Paul has tasted tast-ed cider for ten days. He bit his tongue almost in two so he has been speaking in tongues, and he figures his neck is 3 inches longer from the force of the blow. After this mishap, Paul speechless speech-less from two things, his tongue cut and swollen, and his neck sore and lengthened, and the others re tired to their abode for the night, firm in the stand that pogo sticks really were tricky. In fact the whole affair brought the sightseeing sightsee-ing in Las Vegas to an end and the group stayed in close to their fireside fire-side that night and returned home the next day. They figure that by not seeing the sights they saved enough money mon-ey to go again to Las Vegas and see the sights next time, minus the pogo sticks. Cec Baker purveyor of medicene to horses and humans, is not quite the aviation enthusiast he was after his experience in the B-29 Sunday. Cec had waited in line for several hours to get into the bomber and explore it from one end to another, and he finally did get up into it. Not wanting to miss anything he got down in the tunnel tun-nel to crawl to the rear cockpit or whatever they call that place in the back end of the plane. He was doing just fine until a rather elderly woman in front of him got stuck in the tunnel and unable to go any father ahead. So we find Bake stuck in the tunnel behind the woman with 37 people back of Bake trying also to get through the tunnel, too. It was quite some time before those in charge of the bomber found out what was causing caus-ing the bottleneck in the steady stream of interested people so that Bake had a very restful period of waiting there cooped up in the tunnel. It grew hotter and hotter and Bake became sticky and so got wedged in tight himself. After some pounding on the wallls of the tunnel a rescue crew was organized and appeared at the tail end of the plane snaking out the woman who had got stuck, also Bake. It is unknown what happened to the 37 people behind Bake, but it is presumed they went on through, being somewhat lighter in frame and build and not quite so sticky from the long wait. Bake says he is going to leave B-29's to the crews hereafter and especially the tail end to the tail gunner, because he doesn't want to get in one again and get stuck and spend the rest of his life as a stowaway in a B-29, having his food pushed to him on a long stick. The Singing Mothers will always al-ways be a huge success and will always be able to draw large crowds to any performance. All they have to do is make their husbands and children attend and they will sing to a packed house. It is going to be difficult when the Singing Mothers join the Desert Des-ert Sentinels in a concert. There are so many in each group they will have to take turns sitting n the audience so as to hear each other and give each other a sizable siz-able crowd, because when you put those two groups together there aren't many people left. It will be something to look forward for-ward to. Toots. |
