Huddleston, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Huddle-ston, and Ronald F. Greathouse, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Great-hous- e, of Lynndyl, enlisted in the U. S. Army Air Force May Ronald Greathouse 26 at Fort Douglas. They left for San Antonio, Texas, travel-ling by car, and will take their basic training at Lackland Air Base. They enlisted for a 3 -- year period. SENIOR LEAGUE BASEBALL OPENS The big league will begin next Saturday, June 4 at 4 p.m. Every-one is invited to come and watch the fireworks. Teams will be Lynn-dy- l, Oak City, Delta, Hinckley, and Abraham, if they can limber up enough old stiffs to make a team. D. A. The public is cordially invited to attend these games, which will be held under the lights at the Delta high school field each Mon-day and Thursday from 8:30 thru 10:30 p. m. At elections held last week, Sherman Perkins was elected pres. of the Softball League, , Wayne Turner, chairman, and Dan Davis, sec. Before that time, everyone who has any old rags to give are ask-ed to deliver them to John Steele's home, in Delta. Any kind of old rags are acceptable, and do not have to be cleaned. Old clothing, mattresses sox, anything that is old rags can be used and donors are asked to bring them in sacks or containers of some sort. Two truck loads have alreadv been shipped to the central depot in S. Lake, where they will be sent later to make into paper. The state-wid- e drive is directed by the Central Co., and the funds raised will go to the Memorial building. FORMER DELTAN DIES IN VAN NUYS. CALIFORNIA S. H. Thommpson died of a heart attack May 24 at his home in Van Nuys, Cal., where he had lived since leaving Delta in 1919. He came to Delta in 1911 as a farmer and settled at Woodrow. The mes-sage came from a daughter, Mrs. M. L. demons. Born to Mr. and Mrs. Willard Stephenson, a boy, May 30. i Hinckley Mk, Harriet Spendlove Mr. and Mrs. Walter Ekins re-turned home Tuesday evening af-ter a few days visit in Cedar City with Mrs. Ekins' mother. They bro-ught home with them their daugh-ter, Carma Rae, who has been visiting there for the past week. Marlene is still in Cedar City and will attend a club convention this week. j, Mr. John Ed. Wright has return- - t ed to his home in Hinckley after having spent three weeks visiting In Provo. His wife will return this week from three weeks visit with her children in Gal. j Mr. and Mrs. Evan Theobald t were Hinckely visitors Saturday and Sunday, coming down to visit the burial place of his father and to bring her father back to his home. Mr. and Mrs. Don Mcintosh and family and Hattie Lou Merrill were Hinckley visitors over the week end. Mr. and Mrs. Eulon Western and family of Provo visited from Saturday until Monday with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alma West-ern. - Mrs. Ellen Stanworth was visited on Monday by her daughters, Olive Laney and Mary of Lehi who came to visit their father's grave. Memorial Day brought many others to town to pay tribute to the dead. Among those who were here were Genevieve Badger and her friend Marie Bosh; Mr. and ", Mrs. J. Carol Crafts and Esther Knight are both employed at the Walker Bank in Salt Lake City. They live at the Bee Hive House in Salt Lake City. Mr. and Mrs. Cluff Talbot, Mr. and Mrs. Vaun Bennett, Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Talbot and George Tal-bot spent Memorial Day in Provo. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Hilton and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur H. Reeve spent part of Memorial Day in Fillmore. Mrs. Virgin and her two small children of San Diego, California, are the visitors at the home of her mother, Mrs. Gertha Bishop. Mrs. Rose- Knight of Salt Lake City was here over the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Bliss and Mrs. and Mrs. Max Bliss of Pay-so- n were town visitors Monday. Mrs. Jane Pratt, her son, Claude and her daughter, Grace Thomas of Salt Lake City, were among those who came here for Mem-orial Day. Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Hilton of Salt Lake City were also Hinckley visitors, as also were Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Hilton and family of Salt Lake. Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Hilton stopped here to visit with Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Hilton and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hilton. They are going to Arizona to visit there with rela-tives. Ardith Johns and Eva Roberts were visitors at the home of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Hilton. Mrs. Louise Christensen, sister of Karl Workman, and Warren Workman and Virginia Christensen Louise's daughter, were visitors at the Workman home Sunday and Monday. Virginia and Warren are staying for a week's visit. Mr. and Mrs. Lafe Nielson, Joe and Carolyn Nielson went to Gar-an- d Frriday to visit with relatives ;here. They spent Saturday and Sunday visiting in Logan and al-so spent Monday in Clarkston, vhere Mrs. Nielson's mother and 'ather were buried. They returned lome Tuesday night. Mr. and Mrs. D. A. Allred will eave Thursday morning to go to 'ocatello to attend the gradua- - ion exercises on Monday night for heir son, Gordon, and his wife, Cay. They will go from there to Jrovo Tuesday when Mr. Allred . vill receive his master's degree it the BYU. The American Legion Post 117 is very grateful for their support to them and for the support to the show. Utah Poultry, proud possessors ?f the grand champion beef since the dance Saturday night, sponsor-ed by American Legion Post 117, announce that they will sell the Deef to the highest bidder locally. All money derived from the sale they will put back into the Mill-ard County Jr. Livestock show for next year in some form. Mrs. W. H. Pace and grandson, Nick Pace, left Delta Wednesday for California for a visit of several weeks. ' Mr. and Mrs. Ray Tozer from Anaheim, California, were Delta visitors from Saturday to Wednes-day renewing old friendships. Mr. and Mrs. James Gottfredson from Caliente joined then in Delta, and from here the four went on to visit in Provo and Vernal. Mr. and Mrs. John Koiter from Vernal visited old friends and neighbors in Delta over Memorial Day, and were guests of their daughter, Mrs. Maxine Peterson. Oasis Mrs La Veda Bishop Mrs. Jensene Anderson received word that her sister, Mrs. Nicoline P. Anderson of Salt Lake passed away last Thursday, May 26. This was not unexpected as she had been ill for a long (time. Mrs. Anderson and daughter , Verda, and son, Parley, visited with her sister in Salt Lake a week before. The funeral was held Tuesday and the relatives from Oasis atteneded. Mr. and Mrs. Therori Anderson and baby and the former Beulah Anderson and her husband visited with their grandmother, Jensene Anderson over the week end and Memorial Day. Some other visitors from out of town were: Mrs. Nora Caproni, Mr. and Mrs. Von Petty and family, from Salt Lake visited with Mr. and Mrs. Enoch Gillen and Mr. and Mrs. J. Val Styler from Saturday till Monday. Mrs. Abbie Hansen and children, and Mr. and Mrs. Wallie Nelson and two boys from Salt Lake visit-ed Monday at the cemetery and with Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Cahoon. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Ward and daughter, from Salt Lake, spent Monday in Oasis. Mrs. Alice Dalton from Parowan visited with her brother, Mr. and Mrs. Morgan Howell over the hol-iday. Dave Nichols had his family all home for Memorial Day. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Brush from Los Alton, Calif., Mr. and Mrs. LeMoine Bond and family from Salt Lake, Miss Pearl and Miss Gloria from Salt Lake. Helen Skeem spent the week end with" her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clifton Skeem. Monday morning, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Hawley took their sister, Lorrane Petty to the Valley hos-pital in Provo. Mrs. Petty has been with her mother for the past week or two but has been in poor hea-lth. Mrs. Leona Simmons and child-ren from Pocatello spent Sunday at the home of Bishop and Mrs. Peter H. Peterson. Mrs. Telia Strang and children and Mr. William Moody from Salt Lake visited with Mrs. Regima Hawley and family over the week end returning home Monday. Art Strang was unable to be with his family on this visit, due to the death of his mother in Michigan. He went by plane to be to her funeral. Mr. and Mrs. Kollo Hawley and son La Thor from Las Vegas, are guests at the Kelly Hawley home. Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Peterson from Ogden arrived Sunday to visit their father, , Peter A. Peterson and other members of the family. He was the guest speaker at Sacra ment meeting Sunday. Monday afternoon, they left for a vacation trip to Wayne Wonder-land and hoped to get as far as Carlsbad Cave in N. M. before re-turning home. Mr. and Mrs. Armond Hawley from Provo visited their mother and others of ,the family, Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Skeems en-tertained at a double birthday party for their sons, Jerold and Fred. Guests were members of the family and friends. Monday evening the children of M.M. Bishop met at the Clark Bish op home and enjoyed a family get together, all the living children except Irene Skeem were there with their wives and husbands. Mr. and Mrs. Milo Bishou and Mr. and Mrs. Heber Bishop and Mrs. Lula Cropper of Hinckley, Mr. and Mrs. E F. Bishop and Mr. and Ed. Silber stein of Sandy, Mr. and Mrs. J. Avery Bishop and Mrs. J. Layton Bishop of Delta. Bryant Moody was a special guest and discussed problems in regard to the program for the family reunion that will be held at Glacier Park this coming July. The Primary held a party Tues-day bringing to a close their winter and spring work and begin-ning the summer's program. ' 1 |
