Show elta F. F.A. Speaker Wins Area Meet Gill Hilton, public speaker of the Delta F. F. A. chapter, won first place at the area meet held in Beaver last- Thursday, where five high schools were represented, Hinckley, Hin-ckley, Millard, Beaver, Milford, and Hilton for Delta. - His topic was "Eyes on the Future", Fut-ure", pertaining to the development develop-ment in new machinery and new chemicals, for weed and insect control, and their1 effect on future farmers. The talks are limited to 10 minutes, before three judges, who then take 5 minutes to question ques-tion the speaker about his subject. sub-ject. Copies of the speeches are given to the judges a week before the contest, so that they may study them and prepare questions that convince them that the speaker speak-er knows his subject. Gill was winner of the area meet last year, also, and later placed third in the state meet. There are eight areas in the state who will send winners to the state meet of F. F. A. public speakers at the Capitol Cap-itol in Salt Lake' City, March 20. Marvin Ogden, chapter advisor, accompanied ac-companied Gill to Beaver, and will I be with him in Salt Lake City at the state meet. This honor, and National F. F. A. Week, will be celebrated by the. Delta FFA chapter at their annual 1 Fathers and Sons Banquet at DHS j on Thursday night. Clare Bishop, vice president and j public speaker of the Hinckley FFA chapter, won at Hinckley high school, contesting with Lester Hep- worth, June Hepworth and Wilmer j Woodbury. Clare placed second at the area meet at Beaver. |
