I went down into the basement base-ment again to find out what the "trouble" was. This time the pump had stopped completely. I turned it over by hand and there seemed to be something loose inside. Waldo Warnick came down and got the motor and took it back to Tel-luride. Tel-luride. The next morning I went down the basement of the Power Co., where Waldo was working on -the motor, and he told me the bad news . . . The motor was grounded ground-ed clear through. Incidentally, before be-fore he came to get the motor, it had caused the fuse to blow out, affecting everything in the house but the lights. Se we cooked our breakfast on a little two-plate electric elec-tric stove we have. About five min utes after we had our breakfast cooked, the other fuse blew out. I went out and put in a new fuse, so we could have lights anyway. A few minutes later the light fixture fix-ture in the kitchen fell apart no light in the kitchen now until I get the old fixture replaced. Getting back to the motor; It costs about as much to have one re-wound as it does to buy a new one, so I decided I would connect up with the City, Water System. So now I've got a trench 80 feet long and 30 inches deep to dig. Now I run into another "trouble" "troub-le" trying to get 100 feet of ." pipe. In order -not to dig a trench through my lawn and the fact that it will take more pipe and a longer long-er trench, I'm digging the trench down the north side of the house you guessed it, the ground is frozen froz-en solid after the first six inches. Of course, they say that's where a pick comes in handy. So you see, all I've got to do now is work on an average of 8 to 12 hours a ,day here at the Chronicle, Chron-icle, dig a trench through frozen ground, try to find or buy a motor to put on my pump temporarily, Well, it looks like we're finally . ! : going to have an oiled road from I j Oak City into Oak Creek Canyon's i ; Recreational area. n This should have been done long h ; ago, but now that it is going to be t i done, it'll make it a pleasure to .'v drive to the canyon now for pic-jc pic-jc nickers, hunters, civic club parties, . i j private parties, fishing, etc. . ! ! TROUBLE According to Web- 'j jj ster's dictionary the word "trouble" j ! means mental agitation, distress or ; worry; fault or interruption in the '. - stratum of a mine: f Here's my definition of the word: i It all started last week when I v ;j got up in the morning and found j that when I turned the water tap '' ;! on no water would come forth. I , ,l went down into the basement to 1 .. see what the "trouble" was and I ' stepped in two inches of cold water. wat-er. The water was coming from u the pop-off valve on the side of .; i the pump, so I took a wrench and 1 ; proceeded to try and fix it. The , ! wrench was too small to fit the -. ;head of the plug so I tapped the ". ; ' valve a little and monkeyed a- '' : j round for a few minutes until fin- , , ! ally the water slowed down to a drizzle. I went back up stairs and i turned on the water tap in the kit- ? ! chen I had water!! - ! After awhile I came to the con-elusion con-elusion that the pump still wasn't ; : working right, so I went down , stairs again. The pop-off valve was :' still leaking and causing the pump f to run continuously. Well, I mon- 'j i keyed some more and finally the ; " : ; valve stopped leaking. I decided ; j that the whole "trouble" was that j ; a piece of sand or something or ! : other had got caught in the valve z and had held it open for 3 or 4 r' , hours. ' ! That evidently didn't seem to i ' be enough "trouble" for me that day. The next morning I got up and j ' : : turned the water tap on again no i! .:l ! : - find pipe for the water system, pack water every morning from the neighbors, warm the baby's bottle at 2 and 6 in the morning; you don't understand why I have to warm the baby's bottle? I'll tell you. It's because my wife went to the show "Mom "and Dad" and fainted in the show; and when she then was brought home by the neighbors she fainted two or three more times, result I warm the baby's milk, - because she doesn't feel well. "TROUBLE", small word, isn't it? But I wish I could tie it to Satan and kick them both to h and gone into the fourth demension. . . (And all this time I've got to shave so I can write this column). .
