Show Millard County Chronicle 4 Delta, Ut., Thurs., Aug. 2G,1948 Mrs. Ethel Waters was in Salt Lake City over the weekend, and attended a convention there for instruction on the school hot lunch program. Mrs. Lillie W. Peters from Cal-ifornia, arrived in Delta last week for a visit with her mother, Mrs. Waiora Wallace and grandmother, Mrs. Ann E. Melville Bishop. The Millard County Chronicle Published Every Thursday at Delta, Utah By CHRONICLE PUBLISHING COMPANY Owned by Frank S. Beckwith and Frank Beckwith Frank Beckwith Editor Frank S. Beckwith, Business Manager Entered as second class matter at the Postoftice at Delta, Utah, under the Act of Congress, March 3, 1879 position flat on your back, and will publish same in an early is-sue, if you don"t get off it and do something for Highway Six, Love with kisses, Frank). ofs" flame it, and we'll provide it. I've already told the world or ns much as I can reach of it that it's a swell road to Delta, that Delta is a swell town, that I met a lot of swell people there, inculding a linotype operator and newspaper publisher whose father told me had a bad disposition, and that I had no more exhilarating experience than the ride across that flat. Incidentally on that ride "down the track" to Milford was a distinct pleasure. I traveled 54 miles before meeting another car, so always was ahead of my own dust, and met only one car be-tween Delta and Milford. I'm afraid you underestimate the "down the track" road if that was your revenge. Every one of the party of 12 enjoyed it, and if it were, oiled, there would be prob-ably hundreds who would like it, too. Perhaps Salt Lakers don't al-ways do everything you want them to, but that doesn't mean they don't like you. I know that from personal experience. I may not be on your "good book list" all of the time, but I love you still, and still like Delta, and even the "road down the track" and I'm going to keep on bragging about them, and you can't talk me out of the notion or write me out of it. Love, STEVE MOLONEY (Mr. Moloney is publicity director of the Salt Lake Chamber of Com-merce. His mention of oiling the "road down the track" is a fond dream of west Millard and Beaver counties. And while they are oil-ing that we would like them to finish the oiling of Highway Six. If they would help us on these two roads and not toss monkey wren-ches about, promiscuously,, then the Salt Lake Chamber of Com-merce would have something to brag about besides northern Utah. Write me often, Steve, or come down again and bring a group. We want you "city slickers" to see how the other half lives. F S B.) (P.S. Steve, don't forget we have a picture of you in you're usual Salt Laker Pours On the "Oil" August 23 Dear Frank: I have just read your editorial (Athena wrote it, Steve)"A For-gotten Town?" Of course, you warned me about it, and as I told you when in Delta, I couldnt' ima-gine the facts being true. The edi-torial was a honey, and of course, with a Beckwith as the author, it was bound to be. However, I made careful inquiry here at the Chamber of Commerce and the statement: "Delta? DEL-TA? what do you want to go there for? No one goes there. You'll just die there!" Well, that just didn't happen at the Chamber of Com-merce. " It stands to reason that even if the information clerks had those sentiments and positively none of them did they would have more tact than to express them. They obtain road information from the Utah Automobile association and from the State Highway Com-mission, dispense that information, direct people to such points of in-terest as they wish to see, recom-mend sigbt-seein- g tours fitted to the desires of the enquirer or the time allotted for such sight seeing but never discourage trips to Delta or any other community. The state ment attributed to our clerk "no one goes there" just couldn't hap-pen for the Chamber receives many inquiries on Delta and directs many people there. We would have to be dumber even than you think us to answer many questions on Delta every week and then say "No one goes there." I dont' know anyone from the "flat" as you call it, should do anything but brag about it. I'm not from "the flat" but my trip last week convinced me that there is beauty in all Utah, whether it is on "the flat" or in the mountain crags. No matter what kind of scenery one wants to see we-v- e got the best in Utah.
