Show A Pleasing Viewpoint i. i THE SALT LAKE Lt TELEGRAM r L 1 in a recent editorial a m made madea de a a departure from the usual line of editorial praise uttered after a team has won a championship when it stated that t. t while le Coach Ike Armstrong Armstrong- is being being- lauded to the skies because the University of Utah has captured c d the Rocky Mountain Moun Moun- tain tarn Conference championship a third consecutive time lets let's not forget those boys of brawn and brain who went out and won seven straight victories this year Ike will tell you that Utah has some born football players and that were we're making making making mak mak- ing a mistake not to give more credit to to the a men glen who did the playing r When townsfolk are so prone to give the glory to the coach it is indeed pleasing to see a daily medium take the stand that the players themselves are are deserving deserving- of more credit Of course campus students realize more acutely than outsiders outsiders outsiders out out- siders the time given the sport by their fellow classmates and immediately give them their due credit for each hard-fought hard game g Students just naturally give the laurels of victor victory 1 to the players more so than to the coach although student A Av a. a 1 never ir fall fail f to compliment l i n the coa coach h. h fo for his his lus teams team's a s vie vic ic- ic tory It is is amusing to note the reaction which the students am and outsiders have when the team loses It appears to be just vice vice- vice vicc versa of the stand taken when victory is attained The town folk criticize the t team am itself and point o out t th the faults and errors enors of the players in their opinion usually the coach is just the victim of circumstances when his team fails But the campus student almost always throws the blame oni on for his alle alleged ed mistakes mistakes mis mis- the i coach himself and pick him to pieces takes in handling the players A C case in point is the recent action taken by r University of California students to oust their clever though beaten coach Nibs Price It only goes to show how arguments are started when parties parties parties par par- ties are on opposite sides of the fence with a different angle from each side |
