Show mL COAL DEALERS CAN PERFORM BIG SERVICE I3 "Retail coal dealers may be .justified in charging the prices they do to the indi- 1 , vidual Ogden consumer, but all the same f the publication of news articles to the ef-t ef-t feet, that much lower prices have been quoted to the school board and made to i the state does not tend to increase what , friendly feeling the consumer may have H toward the retailer. H k The mine operator contends that the high wages he has contracted to pay his H; miners is making him poor. ; The retailer says the high cost of trans- H portation accounts for the big difference Hj between the price of coal at the mine . mouth and the amount on the bill handed H! the consumer when the fuel has been H dumped .into his bin. ' ; But we have not heard any retail fuel H ' dealer compain that he is conducting his H. business at a loss. - If the coal yard owner in Ogden can re- H duce the prices he charges the local con- H;, sumer and still make a fair profit, he ' should do so, for such reduction would Hr be in the nature of a great public service, especially in these days when wages have H shrank somewhat and some are not era- Hjj ployed as steadily as they were during H the piping times of war extravagance." H. The above from the .Ogden Standard- Hj Examiner seems very timely and we H . cannot refrain from commending it to H our local coal dealers. Now it may be that Hr they will not be .justified in making any H' reduction, and surely no good citizen H wants them to operate at a loss, but as H the Ogden paper says a reduction in the i price of coal this winter when every-K every-K thing else is on the downward grade, es-Hl es-Hl pecially the pocket books of the people, ; will be a very great service. With the I; mine operator passing the buck to labor, ;! and the retailer passing the buck 'to the Wi railroads, and the railroads passing the Iji same buck some other place the people of Hr course are bewildered but at the same ': time the dealers are fully advised. If it j! can be done the dealers will of course i' . iy it. i m ra ra |
