The strength of any chamber lies In Its membership. member-ship. Tho new members add a decided de-cided strength to -the Chamber. Tho matter of holding every other Thanksgiving day football game with tho University of Utah at Logan received re-ceived a careful and thorough discussion. dis-cussion. Prof. Rny B. West, chairman chair-man of tho college athletic council, and Mr. D H Thomas, chairman of the local commltteo, presented both sides of tho question. Because of financial reasons nnd larger gate receipts, tho game has ecn played at Salt Lake City. It has been the gamo that has always helped to pay the indebtedness of the athletic departments of both schools. In order or-der for tho local college to receive the samo receipts by having tho game played at Logan, a guarantco of 15,000 will bo necessary. Some of the business men claim that approximately ap-proximately $10,000 loavo tho town and valley when tho gamo is played In Salt Lako City and that the peo-plo peo-plo hero could well afford to pay for several tickets each and see tho gamo here. it was dcldcd that tho special commltteo bo enlarged and that a canvass of ,t,he merchants and business busi-ness men bo mado and ascertain tho sentiment of havjng every other gamo played at Logan and securing tho necessary guarnntco. Just whero tho game for this year will bo played play-ed has not been determined but Prof Rny B. West reported that it would be decided In tho next ton days. Tho differences of tho two schools are being settled by arbitration. Mr. David Tarbot was present ati the meeting and explained constltu-' tlonal amendment number two which provides for tho equalization of tho school taxes throughout tho state. Ho showed whero tho passage of such amendment would bo of much, benefit to Logan and Cache county, especially. It was unanimously decided de-cided that the Chamber favor tho amendment and that tho members do all thoy can for tho passage of it. Mr. II. W. Brnngham of tho local post of tho American Legion, ropori-cd ropori-cd that appropriate services would bo conducted by tho post on Armistice Armis-tice Day, Novombcr 11. The use of the Chamber rooms was given to the Legion for November 11. It was announced that a special commltteo from tho Rotary club anu I tho Chamber had secured from Lieut. Russell Mnughan a promise that ho would glvo a demonstration with his neroplano over tho city on Saturday at 3 p. m. Bccauso of tho recent death ot Lieut. Maugban'a I father and other conditions. Llout. Maughan was somowhat reluctant to .glvo tho demonstration. Ho by no . means sought tho opportunity to on-tortaln on-tortaln but only consented after considerable con-siderable persuasion on the part of the committees. I |
