Show I INJURED. MAN I PASSED AWAY ft YESTERDAY m Merton H. Phelps, tho unfortunate R man who was hurt In the railroad B vrreck near Weston last week, died H yesterday morning from Injuries ro- H celved. H This man, with two companions, H was riding In a freight car on tho H Oregon Short Line train when the H wrack occurred. The , two compan-H compan-H Ions of Phelps were also badly In-H In-H jured. Ono received a broken colli col-li lar bone, the other a sprained ankle. H Immediately after tho accident H happened tho Injured men were glv- en first aid by Dr. Quick of Weston, and wero then brought to Logon. The sheriff was notified to make nr-I nr-I rangements for taking care of tho H patients. Ho with Dr. D. C. Iiudge, I the local railroad physician, met tho I men at the Logan station and after It was determined that the men woro not railroad employees, they were turned over to Dr. W. D. Parkinson, I the county physician, who took them to th'e Eagle hotel, from whero they whore later removed to tho county I jail, for treatment. -I It wa3 finally decided, after a B thorough examination had been made by four physicians, that Phelps had not only received a crushed leg, hut that he had also sustained a fractured spine and his lower ex-trematles ex-trematles wero paralyzed. His condition con-dition becamd'so bad that It was decided de-cided to amputate tho leg. Commissioner Commis-sioner Facer made tho request that tho patient bo taken to tho hospital nnd tho request was granted. Dr. Eliason of Hyrum, county physician from tho south end of the valley, wa3 called In and through his request, re-quest, and that of Commissioner Facer, the surgical work was per- d formed by Dr. D. C. Budge. Mr. Thelps was In a most woakened condition con-dition and passed away yesterday morning. Tho father of Mr. Phelps, who resides re-sides In Oklahoma, has been notified, and until word Is received from him no arrangements will bo mado for tho disposition of tho body. |
