Show - RICHMOND DEPARTMENT I News From the Lively Town up North Richmond, April 20. Not many trees were planted in our little burg Arbor Day as the ground was cold and wet as well as the air. However, schools and business houses were closed giving a holiday tone to the day. Stake Primary Convention was held here Saturday with a goodly attendance at-tendance from the wards of the stake, all being represented but Newton New-ton and Clarkson. The visiting sisters sis-ters from Salt Lake City were Clara Becby and Ella Germane of the Gen. Board. The fomoon meeting was taken up in testimony bearing and a talk in dress by Counselor Clara Bceby. Luncheon was then served in cafeteria style to acrowd of 120 after whicli all went to the tabernacle taber-nacle to view the sand-table containing con-taining the busy work. Upon returning re-turning the opera house sister Ella Geramc took up the Lesson, story, busy and social hours giving demonstrations demon-strations in the busy and social hours. The convention closed with a spirited stake board meeting. The visiting sisters were the guests of Mrs. Win. Lawrence. Stake conference will be held here Saturday and Sunday; the brethren in attendance will be O. V. Whitney and Leu Young. An architect from Salt Lake City met with the tabernacle committee last Sunday and another from Ogdcn was up Thursday considering the advisability ad-visability of remodeling the building A core of men arc busy at present digging a drain to carry off the water in the basement. Monday April 23 will be a big day in Richmond for th dairy men. All kinds of breeds will bo exhibited and prizes awarded the best. J. W. and Clarence Funk with S. W. Hendricks and Henry Clirist,o(Tcrson as representatives of the South Ward Building 'Committee have investigated investiga-ted the ward meeting houses of Ogdcn and Salt Lake while at conference. Tlicv are home filled with good ideas on how to go to work with their own meeting liousc. Mr. Walter Spackman and family have moved into the home of Mr. lui. Larson. Mr. and Mrs. Win, Lewis announce the engagement of their daughter Lizzie and Mr. Trucman Ilillyard of Smithficjd, the wedding to take nlc in May. Mr. Mclvin Harris and wife spent Vrbor Day hcie with his parents. Mr. and Mrs. C Z. Harris. Mr. Henry Johnson has leased a portion of Oscar Popes land .i. Lcwiston and with his mother lias moved there for the summer. The pupils of Miss Bessie Sha.v Miss Katlicriue Anderson and Mils Clara Munk, have showed their kindly kind-ly feelings towards these teachers by giving them little surprise parties. Each one has been an event of much fun. Our gypsie friends have camped north of town and most of us have had t)ie fortune tellers visiting our home during the past week. Mr. Mazcl Merrill who has inlistcd in the Aviation corps for 7 years left for the coast Tuesday. A farewell party was given him at the opera house Saturday night. Morris Bair in handling some electrical elec-trical fixtures picked up an insulator with the result that his hand was badly torn from the shock. Surgical aid was needed to sew up the wound. Funeral services over the remains of Mrs. Maria Thompson were held at the opcra house Sunday. Bishop Lewis McCarrcy presiding. The speakers were Prest. Alma Merrill and Lchi Olscn of River Heights. All Spoke of the virtues and the good life of the departed sister. The fol lowing songs were rendered by the choir. "Oh What Songs of the Heart," "Tho Dcepning Trials," and "NcarcrMy God to Thee." The opening op-ening prayer was offered by Geo, O. Webb and Carl C. Carlson pronounced pro-nounced the benediction. Prof. Hogenson of the A. C. was the main speaker at the meeting held in the opera house Sunday evening, He spoke on the increase of food supply by cultivating the vacant city lots and encouraged the organization of clubs for this purpose: Bishop McCarrey ami Earl Robinson also spoke on the virtues of these moves and the necessity of them. Prof, Casto will speak on 'Mormon 'Mor-mon Pilgrimage" at the High School building Monday evening at 8 P. M. Admission 25 and ISccnts. Mr. and Mrs. S. W. Hendricks entertained en-tertained at their home Kriday evening even-ing This social was one of the royal ewnt of the season including a most delicious luncheon which was terved to nluiirSQ puests. HL talk va.s on the planting of trcs flowers sbrubery etc. Monday evening, the mutual organization organ-ization of both wards celebrated the closing of the lesson season; two brcthern and seven sisters of the Stake Board were present. After th : splendid program a dance was enjoyed en-joyed and all present report a moit enjoyable time. "Nathan Hale," wa the High School play much appreciated by the audience Wednesday evening. The stake mutuals will have a big day at Smithficld April 28th. All the wards of the stake will be expected to scud representatives to the demonstration, |
