News of' one of the saddest deaths In the history of Logan reached us yesterday when the word camo that Raymond Barber, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. H. P. Barber of this city, was drowned In the reservoir of the Dlue Creek Irrigation company; at Howell In Box Elder county, late Sunday afternoon. Raymond, with his younger brothors, Wendell and Dick, were farming In the Blue Creek valley, where they, with their father, have extensive farming interests, and Sunday afternoon Raymond and Wen-doll Wen-doll wont to the reservoir to swim. It appears as though Raymond was a good swimmer, while Wendell could not swim. There was Just a short span of deep water before reaching a place whero Raymond said he could teach Wendell to swim, and strong and powerful Raymond had no Idea but what ho could pilot Wendell safely across. They started out and Just what happened no one knows, as Wendell shortly after found hlmsolf In the shallow water on tho other side with Raymond no .where to be seen. Whether Raymond used his strength to oxhaustlon or whether he placed Wendell on tho safe side and then started back to get his clothes and fell a victim to tho water, will never bo known. That he lost his lite struggling to eavo his brother is evident, and Is in keeping with his character and mako-t mako-t up, for all who knew the big, gener- S ous, unselfish Raymond Barber found v him over ready and willing to sac rifice himself and his own Interests for & welfare of others". WMi'Sell quickly as possible gave tho alarm, and with the assistance of his younger brother, Bishop Charles E. Ounnell, Nephl Nessen, nnd others, the body was rocovered. Tho father was notified by telephono and at once left with an automobllo for tho remains, and roturned to ' Logan yesterday morning. Raymond Barber was 27 years of age, was unmarried, and was Just tho kind of a young man to carry a heavy load, assume great responsibility, and to perform the hard work Incident Inci-dent to the building up of a new country. Ho was Industrious and thrifty, and a visit to his ranch at any time of the day or year wos a complete testimony to his tnaglntH-ccnt tnaglntH-ccnt courage and industry. Ills sudden, sud-den, nnd what seems to us 'Untimely, death is a great shock to his parents, who looked upon him as the leader of their flock.
