Show CANADIAN WAIt FINANCK. For Canada to maintain her army In tho field, nnd to assist tho allied nations with munitions, calls for tho employment of hor utmost financial strength. In other words, what Britain is doing her oversea dominions domin-ions must also try to do in tho most effective way. During this year Can- ada will have to raise at least $250,-000,000 $250,-000,000 for her own war expenditures, expendi-tures, and fully as much more to finance British, war purchases in the Dominion. This will call for extraordinary extra-ordinary efforts, the discarding ot all luxuries, and the concentrating of all Canadian resources upon a single sin-gle purpose the gaining of a complete com-plete victory In the shortest possible time. What Canada has already accomplished accom-plished in this regard Is but little realised: Successful loans were floated float-ed in New York, combinations with tho Bank of England and tho British treasury enabled hugo war purchasca to be financed In Canada, and vast credits established In the dominion. Canadian banks wero Induced to supplement sup-plement treasury loans for purposes of British credit with large commitments commit-ments an their own account, nnd by theso means contracts for $600,000,-000 $600,000,-000 worth of munitions wero obtained ob-tained for Canada, with probobly another an-other $400,000,000 worth of other war supplies. And that Canada is capablo of still moro extraordinary offorts few will gainsay. Last year sho absorbed most readily two domestic do-mestic loans. Tho first was for $50,-000,000, $50,-000,000, and tho subscriptions en-ablod en-ablod twice that sum to bo obtained. Tho Becond was for $100,000,000, and subscription totaling $180,000,-000 $180,000,-000 wero received. Here woro $280,-000,000 $280,-000,000 offered In a slnglo year and without depleting the deposlta In savings sav-ings banks for moro than a month or two. As the days go by, and sho gets greater benefit from tho atoady growing volume of war trado within her boundaries, her peoplo should easily bo able to aubscrlbo another $300,000,000 this yonr without spo-clal spo-clal offort; and by a thrift campaign be in a position to provldo still nn-other nn-other $200,000,000.
